Great Danes may look impressively large and imposing, but they’re really just big babies at heart! They are all around friendly, intelligent, sweet-tempered, social, and even natured animals that absolutely love to be pampered and pet. That’s the reason why they are often called the ‘Gentle Giants’ of the dog world!

It’s a nickname they’ve earned and once you see how Max the Great Dane reacts to some disappointing news, you’ll understand why. Max was all ready and set to go swimming in his beautiful backyard pool when his mom suddenly told him that he couldn’t go for a dip. Since he had been looking forward to a relaxing swim all day long, he did not take the sudden change of events lightly. Rather than remain calm, Max immediately launched into a noisy temper tantrum and let his unhappy feelings be known to anyone in the vicinity.

The fact that Max is deaf never stops him from arguing with his owners. He whined and protested the pool ban aggressively, answering and challenging his mom every step of the way. The way he talks back, you’d think he could hear every word she said!

The big gentle six year old boy certainly has it made and life is good for him. According to his Facebook bio page he lives alongside his sister Katie, who also happens to be a Great Dane, his mom and dad, and several cats. Check Max out for a good laugh, he surely knows how to brighten anyone’s day!

When Sue Zelitsky’s cat Jimmy went missing, she and her husband searched tirelessly to find him. They had no idea that he would find their way back to them long after they’d given up hope.

Jimmy regularly went outside to play – visiting the neighbors, sneaking into open windows of cars, and joining the family dog on his walks – and he always came back.

But then, one night, the then 13-year-old cat did not return. His family searched and called for him, but there was no response. They stuck “missing cat” posters everywhere and called his name when they went for walks, but to no avail.

Two and a half years passed. The family had come to terms with never finding him again. But one day, Zelitsky was scrolling through her Facebook feed when she saw a cat advertised for adoption by West Milford Animal Shelter. His resemblance to Jimmy was uncanny, so Zelitsky contacted the shelter.

The cat had been pulled off the streets ten miles away after a blizzard. After exchanging a few messages, it seemed like there was a huge chance that the cat was, in fact, Jimmy.

So Zelitsky packed some things that Jimmy would recognize and went with her neighbor, who Jimmy had been close to, and went to meet him.

As soon as Zelitsky saw the cat, she knew it was her Jimmy. The kit immediately walked over to her and gave her head-butts. Zelitsky broke down in tears at finally seeing her precious boy again. Later, her husband arrived and was greeted in the same loving way.

Jimmy might be fifteen years old now, but he’s making up for lost time with his family. The family dog is happy to have him back too, and his two new kitten siblings who were adopted after he went missing quite like him, too! It sounds impossible, but somehow, Jimmy found his way home again, like he always had before.

Thirty-three former circus lions are feeling the African sun on their backs and grass under their feet after a lifetime of misery and abuse in traveling circuses in Peru and Colombia. The lions made the incredible journey back to their birthplace after a herculean rescue effort by Animal Defenders International (ADI). Tim Phillips,

Animal Defenders International co-founder, said rescuers faced incredible challenges in tracking down and rescuing the lions from illegal circuses in Peru and Colombia.

Circus animals are banned in the countries, but many traveling circuses operate in remote areas and moved underground after the laws went into effect. ADI teams worked with government authorities to find and seize the animals.

Many times they were accompanied by SWAT teams and riot police in order to secure and rescue the animals. They then had to transport the lions back from remote areas in the Andes and back to their rescue centres.

It was an effort that took 18 months to accomplish! Of the 100 animals saved, 33 were lions. These majestic big cats have endured a lifetime of suffering, confined to tiny cages, maltreated and mutilated. Arrangements were made to fly them back to their land of origin – Africa!

Sadly, the lions will never be able to survive on their own because of their physical condition. Many have had their claws removed and their teeth smashed. “They can’t go back to the wild but they can go back home,” Tim said in an interview.

The lions will live out the rest of their days in peace and freedom at Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in Vaalwater, South Africa.

“African sun, African night skies, African bush and sounds, clouds, summer thunderstorms, large enclosures in a natural setting where they can remember who they are,” Savannah Heuser, founder of Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary, said in a statement.

Tim said bringing the battered, old lions back to Africa is one of his proudest moments.

The bond between a mother and her child is one of the strongest known to humankind. Whether we’re talking about people, dogs, birds, or fish, we see the power of this bond across countless species. When a family’s house recently caught fire, this powerful bond was exposed. But it was only after the fire was extinguished that the incredible occurrence was revealed.

When a fire starts, time is of essence. Firefighters must quickly be in place to tackle the fire and to make sure everyone is safe.

When a fire raged in this family house in Santa Rose de Temuco, Chile, firefighters were quickly on scene. Fortunately, the family escaped unhurt apart from some minor burns.

But as the firefighters began to head back to their fire truck, they discovered that someone else had survived the fire, someone they had not been able to find in the house.

The mother dog, Amanda, raced back and forth between the house, putting her 10 day old puppies in the safest place she could find – the firetruck!

After everyone was rescued she lay close to them, protecting them and making sure they were OK. Veterinarians were quickly called on scene to ensure that all her puppies survived unharmed.

The mamma dog obviously had incredible instinct to be able to manage to save all of her puppies from the flames. Aside from one puppy being treated for serious burns, the entire family are alive and well – thanks to the bravery of Amanda.

Clearlt, nothing could stop this heroic mother from being with their loved puppies. Not even a blazing fire.
