16-year-old rescues 3 girls trapped in car and officer from drowning

A teenager from Mississippi is being labeled a hero after he leapt into action to save four people, including a police officer, from drowning.

According to Good Morning America, 16-year-old Corion Evans was on hand to witness a vehicle drive straight into the Pascagoula River in Moss Point, Mississippi. The car began floating about 20 feet from the shore, before quickly starting to sink with its three passengers, all teenage girls, trapped inside.

A statement released by the Moss Point Police Department said: “The driver of that vehicle stated she was following her GPS and did not realize she was going into the water.”

Fortunately, though, Corion saw the whole thing unfold. He is said to have removed his shoes and shirt before entering the water as the car began to sink.

The brave teenager, a student at Pascagoula High School, told WLOX: “I was just like, ‘I can’t let none of these folks die. They need to get out the water’. “So, I just started getting them. I wasn’t even thinking about nothing else.”

One of Corion’s friends reportedly also entered the river to help the girls get onto the roof of the sinking car. Corion added: “I just started getting them. I wasn’t even thinking about nothing else.”

Moss Point Police Officer Gary Mercer was the first to respond to the scene, but ultimately found himself in trouble when one of the girls he was bringing to shore “began panicking and caused him to go under swallowing some water.”

Luckily, Corion spotted Officer Mercer and was able to rescue him, too. “I turned around. I see the police officer. He’s drowning. He’s going underwater, drowning, saying, ‘Help!'” Corion recalled. “So, I went over there. I went and I grabbed the police officer and I’m like swimming him back until I feel myself I can walk.” The three teenage girls and Officer Mercer were transported to hospital. All are expected to make a full recovery.

Moss Point Chief Brandon Ashley said in a statement: “The police department and I commend Mr. Evans’s bravery and selflessness he displayed by risking his own safety to help people in danger. “If Mr. Evans had not assisted, it could have possibly turned out tragically instead of all occupants rescued safely.”

On Tuesday, Corion was presented with a certificate of commendation for his heroism by Moss City officials.

The 16-year-old’s proud mother, Marquita Evans, told WLOX: “I’m glad nothing happened to him while he was trying to save other people’s lives. “I was really proud of Corion because he wasn’t just thinking about himself. He was trying to really get all those people out the water.” Corion added that he has been swimming since he was three years old.

“Twenty-five yards out, so it was a lot of swimming. My legs were so tired after,” he said. “Anything could’ve been in that water, though. But I wasn’t thinking about it.”

Thank God that Corion was on hand to help and showed a courage all of us can admire. Thanks to him, these three girls – and indeed Officer Mercer – were saved at the last minute.

Tiny blue penguin melts million hearts with sweet ‘goodbye’ to rescuer

Blue penguins may be the smallest of their species but this little guy has a huge heart. Animal rescue can be a thankless job. Few people do it but when they do, they do it with all their hearts.

This blue penguin was rescued from being entangled by plastic netting. He was then turned over to the Kaikoura Wildlife Hospital in Kaikoura, New Zealand, where he was treated for a head wound and severe exhaustion.

When he finally recovered, they helped release him back into the ocean. It seems like the blue penguin developed a connection with his caretakers.

He walked a few feet away before turning back to the person who took care of him. He then looked back at the ocean and took a few more steps toward it.

But before he could reach the waves, he took another look back at his caretaker.

He knew this was goodbye. He was never going to see her again. But when he felt the ocean water touch his feet, he remembered it was where he belonged.

And he ran into the ocean. The waves may seem to stop him but he didn’t care. He pushed himself past the waves and swam to his home.

And besides, blue penguins are used to the rough waves of the New Zealand coastline. Fairy penguins Blue penguins are also called little penguins or fairy penguins.

They are the smallest of the penguin species. Their beaks are black and their eye color varies from silver to blue, grey, or hazel. The undersides of the flippers, torso, chin, and throat are white but can become gray or brown.

And the top of its head, neck, and torso, as well as the outer parts of its flippers, have an indigo-blue color. They’re their own kind of bird.

Blue penguins are both diurnal and nocturnal. They are extremely noisy and have their own individual call.

Their species is verging on becoming endangered because of natural predators and industrial fishing. They’re also the ones who suffer the most from oil spills.

It’s a good thing this little blue penguin was rescued at that time. He probably had a family who depended on him to feed them.

They’re not migratory birds and they tend to stay close to their colony. So when one is missing, the colony is most likely in an uproar.

This blue penguin was so blessed. It was lucky to have been turned over to the care of Kaikoura Wildlife Rescue.

Founded by Wildlife Biologist Sabrina Luecht in 2017, Kaikoura Wildlife Rescue has helped rehabilitate thousands of birds, especially seabirds like blue penguins, yellow-eyed penguins, shags, gulls, petrels, and shearwaters.

She said that the hardest part about wildlife rehabilitation is the injuries and deaths the animals and the caretakers have to deal with.

“Many patients arrive in rehab due to human-induced injuries, rather than natural injuries,” Sabrina said.

“You do your very best for every patient, but some cannot be saved despite treatment and countless hours, which is always saddening. The best aspects of wildlife rehabilitation are saving native birds… Releasing birds back into the wild makes it all worthwhile.”

90-year-old man rides his bicycle 2 hours everyday to visit his wife in the hospice

Burkhardt said, 'She is no longer the same as she was. But I'm still in love with her. Every time I go back home, I think it's a sad moment.'

Nothing can stop 90-year-old Peter Burkhardt from cycling all the way to meet the love of his life. Peter's wife is 17 kilometers away in a hospice in Apeldoorn.

"Cold doesn’t bother me and with rain, you can put on a rain jacket. If it's really bad I’ll take a cab and else one of my sons will bring me. So I’ll always get to my wife," said Burkhardt in an interview posted by @u/kleutscher.

When asked why is he doing this, he said, "Because I want to see my wife and be with her. We are married for 63 years so then you want to be together."

It takes him an hour to cycle to the hospice from Diepenveen where he stays and an hour to cycle back. Burkhardt gets ready in his outfit which is a blue (ski) suit with a body warmer on top.

He looks left and right and cycles the roundabout at Zwolseeweg in Deventer. He then crosses a railway bridge, goes up a steep slope and finally takes a straight road toward his final destination, as reported by De Stentor. Burkhardt has been going to Apeldoorn for the past seven years.

He said, “I have to take the situation as it is. I just want to be with her every day. I just can't miss her. I did it by car for a while. But even then I alternated it with the bike." Every morning, he packs his tricycle in the shed in his house as he hasn't had a car for some time.

Moreover, his driver's license was not approved. He had his cycle in the shed so he took it out for the travel. Burkhardt has covered more than 40,000 kilometers in more than three years, which he finished in December last year. He sometimes does take more than an hour to reach Apeldoorn. He said, “It takes me about an hour. But in the heavy wind for a little more than an hour." "Without support, I really wouldn't make it anymore." He doesn't find the ride dangerous at any time of the day or night.

However, he thinks the cycle path on the railway bridge at Deventer is too narrow. He wants them to do something about it. He said, “It really is a disaster. You can barely get past each other there with the two of you." Burkhardt knows that he is getting older and he agreed that there were many things that he could do 5-6 years ago but now he can't. He said, “I hope I can keep doing it. I walk a lot less now, but cycling is still going well."

He was asked if his wife knows what he does for her every day. He said, "No, not that. It is completely outside her realm of experience. But when I'm back, I notice that she gives me a very nice hug every now and then." His only motivation to do this is in Apeldoorn.

Burkhardt said, “I want to see her, hear her voice. When I enter the nursing home I immediately know where she is. She is no longer the same as she was. But I'm still in love with her. Every time I go back home, I think it's a sad moment."

His children are proud of what their father does every day and they encourage him to do it. His son Wouter Burkhardt said, "I think they keep each other alive with this. I hope my father inspires other people with this."

Dog show judge asks a little girl with autism to show off her stuffed dog in a competition

A small act of kindness can go a long way in someone else's life. Especially in today's world, when hope and empathy have seemingly become extremely rare commodities, we've come to expect so little from each other that such acts of kindness shine even brighter.

Although the constant stream of negative news the internet submerges us in has left us resigned to a dystopian future, all it takes is one heartwarming video or social media post to remind us that humanity isn't all that hopeless as most of us have come to fear.

A dog show judge restored the internet's faith in humanity when an adorable exchange he shared with a little girl went viral. The unidentified American Kennel Society judge became the online world's new favorite human after he went out of his way to bring a smile to the face of the cute spectator watching from the sidelines.

A video that has been shared across social media platforms shows him walking up to the child with autism and noticing that she had her own prized pooch to show: a stuffed puppy.

The judge—clad in the snazziest pink suit ever—then offers her the chance to show her toy dog in the competition just like all the other real dog participants.

Overjoyed by the offer, the young girl agrees and takes her toy puppy for a spin. She then comes back and gives the kind judge the biggest hug and you can almost hear the internet collectively go "awww..." in that moment.

Well, it's the audience going "awww..." in the video, but you get the point.

This beautiful little girl has autism. She brought her stuffed-puppy to the dog show.

One of the judges stopped, walked over to her, and asked if she wanted to show her dog as well.

Pointing out the significance of the heartwarming video, Twitter user Manny wrote: "Sometimes in this super fast-paced world where we get caught up in so many important yet meaningless things it’s moments like this that we need to slow down to appreciate the little things that mean so much more. Awesome."

Another Twitter user, JayKwellin, revealed that this isn't the first time this judge has made a child's day. She wrote: "This judge has helped set up the 'peewee' class at dog shows, which is for kids not old enough for the junior showmanship classes. He is literally this amazing with every child at a show and it is a pleasure to watch!"

Meanwhile, the loved ones of individuals with autism expressed how touched they were by the judge's kindness in the video.

Twitter user Kratu wrote: "My mum is autistic. That made her cry a little as we just did a dog show #crufts and it was an eye-opener."

User Alexa & furry kids tweeted: "I love that! So sweet. Autistic children are some of the most beautiful, kind and inspiring people that I have ever met. I have a friend who has a son who is autistic. I can only describe him as one of God's that he sent to earth to show us what kindness & love looks like."

Barber shaves off his own head in solidarity with a cancer patient in incredibly touching video

Losing their hair to cancer can sometimes be a debilitating experience for women as societal beauty standards attach a lot of importance to a woman's hair.

Having to shave it off can also be a reminder of everything the illness has taken from them and their exhausting battle to survive. In such situations, any support can help make them feel better.

One barber went above and beyond for his client who has cancer when he shaved off his own hair in solidarity as she went through the heartbreaking process of going bald.

A viral video of his kind act won the praise of many on social media. The short clip begins with the woman sobbing uncontrollably as the barber uses a trimmer to shave off her head.

Once the work was done, the barber pulled the woman into a sweet embrace and then proceeded to shave off his own hair. The woman paused for a second, clearly stunned, and asked the barber to stop. She then puts her hand on her head while he held her in the embrace as she cried.

The video caption read: "An unusual request for a barbershop, but undeniable. Nubia came to us very shy, embarrassed, and unable to say what was going on. But with a lot of conversation, she opened her heart and told us about the difficulty she was going through with CANCER.

At first, we were astonished, with no reaction, such news is always very difficult to hear, but we welcomed her and gave her much more strength because we were sure that she would win this battle of life."

The post continued, "And so, we did, we set the day, we left everything ready to receive it. There was no other way, I would have to cut all the hair that was already starting to fall out due to the treatment.

We took a deep breath and with eyes full of tears we started to cut her hair, I remember always giving support and affection, saying that it was just a phase and that soon, it would grow again, because she would beat Cancer!

In the end, I hugged her with great certainty in my heart and started to cut mine too, in the form of affection, to give her support and strength so she wouldn't give up. And with a lot of willpower Nubia WON! Today she is HEALED."

The same video was shared on Twitter where it gained over 270K views and some really heartwarming comments. "Even the small gestures were tear-jerker for sure also besides the point but I wanted to focus on the fact that he still did a wonderful cleanup with one hand while applying a light rear naked. I know I’d either cut myself or it would look a mess if I did it," commented @sports_takes32.

"That guy embodies what’s the right thing to do. Bless his heart and his customers too. May she have a full recovery. She’ll be in our thoughts and prayers," wrote @charliehenslee.

Nobody can understand the pain that a cancer patient goes through during the whole ordeal. In the aftermath of the diagnosis, support from family, friends and peers is of utmost importance.

The feeling of love and understanding acts as a motivator to ensure a positive clinical outcome. The family provides emotional security, reassurance and care. Friends provide companionship, shared values and interests that are dear to us.

All these things collectively provide resources to help cope with crippling anxiety and stress. With that, it is important to remember that you are not alone and that there is always someone out there for you.

Boy left with 90 stitches after risking own life to save sister from dog attack

A six-year-old boy from Wyoming in the US has been mauled by a dog as he risked his life to save his younger sister.

Bridger Walker bravely stepped in when the dog began charging at his sister on July 9, according to an Instagram post by his aunty.

The little boy was bitten several times on the head and face as he took on the animal. He was able to grab his sister’s hand and lead her safely away from danger.

But the attack has left him with several wounds, the most prominent on his face, which required 90 stitches.

Bridger said he was willing to give up his own life to save his sister. “If someone had to die, I thought it should be me,” Bridger said, according to the Instagram post.

The young boy’s selfless act has gone viral. Almost 100, 000 people have liked one of the posts on his Aunty, Nicole Walker’s, Instagram page.

The six-year-old is now recovering at home and is in good spirits. “I just finished visiting with Bridger at his home,” Nicole’s post read.

“His wounds are looking so much better! He’s in great spirits, and his awesome personality is intact.

“He can’t smile too widely yet, but he was grinning as I read some of your comments to him. Amazingly, Bridger and his family feel no animosity towards the dog or its owners. I’d also like to mention here that the dog’s owners are really great people who have been nothing but kind to Bridger and his family,” the post read.

“We feel no resentment toward them at all, and if anything there’s only been an increase of love between our families as a result of this incident.”

Bridger’s aunty thanked the public for their overwhelming support for the young boy. “Once again, everyone’s kindness has meant so much to us,” the post added.“I’m trying to get to all of the messages that I can, but it may take some time.”

Some people are even inquiring if there is a GoFundMe page for Bridger. But the family says anyone willing to donate should instead give to military veteran groups Wounded Warrior Project and Mission 22.

One request the family did have was for people to send in photos of rocks, as Bridger loves geology. “Bridger is also a huge fan of science, especially geology,” the post states. “So, I’m going to start a post where people can share with him pictures of cool rocks that they see.”

Woman takes 18 disabled dogs to the beach for their very 1st time

One of the things we always do in life is to look for more and forget to appreciate what it really is. That is our essence.

Instead of being grateful for what we have, we grieve and sometimes we also become discouraged by envy of another’s life.

This is one of the worst things a person can do when comparing their life with that of others. On the other hand, those who are most grateful tend to be the ones who have the least things to be grateful for.

This is a way of life. A few years ago, a survey was conducted of African children who were happier than the developed parts of the world.

Although there is not much in life, children enjoy and are grateful for every three meals a day, the basic needs of it when other children have games and many things. The same thing happens with dogs as well.

Many dogs that live with their owners may not be as happy as the stray dogs that live together or in the event that we have disabled dogs here.

There are so many disabled dogs out there and the fact that many of them here are enjoying something that might be completely normal and part of another dog’s daily routine is amazing, this group of disabled dogs couldn’t be happier running around on the beach.

For the first time, Salima Kadaoui decided to take 18 dogs out of the SFT Animal Sanctuary that she founded in Tangier, Morocco, for a day trip.

The precious little dogs take their first steps in the sand and run through the surf that hits the bank. In doing so, they completely forget that they have wheelchairs. Salima said, “Dogs loved the beach.

Well we can all learn something from this video. Amazing friends how dogs can be, they are great teachers to all of us too.

For me personally, someone who can watch a lot of dog videos on a daily basis, I learn a lot from them and onething I learned from this particular video is the fact that happiness comes from even the smallest things in life.

I really hope this video will inspire other people out there and disabled people in particular who believe that there is no hope for them in life. So please share it with friends.

Dragon’s Blood tree – Socotra island

Dracaena cinnabari, the Socotra dragon tree, or dragon blood tree, is a unique tree that is one of the most peculiar trees in the world.

The tree has a distinctive external shape that makes it look like a huge umbrella, as the leaves grow only at the end of branches and point upwards.

It has many branches; it grows by dichotomy, which means that each branch is divided into two until the leaves finally grow on the branches' ends. It produces a lot of green leaves that are renewed every three or four years; they fall and other leaves grow in their place.

The dragon blood tree is a rare plant categorized under the dracaena genus of the Asparagaceae family. It grows in rocky grounds and on high locations, where it preserves water for many years; it is drought-tolerant and can adapt to arid conditions in which there is less water and soil.

The dragon blood tree dates back to over 50 million years; it first appeared in the Mediterranean. It can now be found in a nature reserve containing 360 species of endangered plants and animals in Socotra, Yemen. It can also be found on Mount Dhofar in Oman, and in some subtropical forests.

What makes this tree stand out among other trees in the world is that it bleeds when it is truncated; the bloody liquid is a type of red resin that has no smell or taste.

This resin is of great importance, as it contains an effective substance known as draco, which has multiple medical uses and is part of the pharmaceutical industry to treat some health problems, such as:

treating wounds and burns, as it works on clotting the blood and healing wounds quickly;

treating infections and skin ulceration; treating digestive system problems and stomach ulcerations. stops internal bleeding anywhere in the body;

is also applied as an antiseptic and astringent gum, and in the manufacture of toothpastes.

Darco is used in some other industries, including wool dyeing, making ink and varnish, marble dyeing, coloring pottery, lipstick industry, among multiple other industries and uses.

This tree produces red honey that is one of the most expensive honey types in the world that has many health benefits; the roots are also used in some treatments including rheumatism.

Moreover, the tree's wood is used in some industries, including bee cells industry; as for the leaves, they are used in making rope.

We must also not forget its importance as a giant umbrella; many endangered animals live under its shadow to protect them from harmful sunrays.

The tree is also known as the “Brothers Blood Tree”, in reference to the story of Cain and Abel, in which the first murder on Earth took place.

In a Yemeni legend, it is said that Cain and Abel were the first to live on the Socotra Island; when Cain killed his brother, Abel, his blood was the reason the brothers blood tree (Dragon blood tree) grew.
