Believe it or not, the mystical and fairytale-like forest portrayed in these beautiful photos actually exists – it’s called Hallerbos (or Halle Forest in Dutch), and it’s located in Belgium.


The reason this forest looks like it’s been lifted right out of a fairytale is its dense carpet of blue flowers, called Bluebell. These flowers thrive and bloom in spring and early summer, and it is their characteristic explosion of blue and violet that gives bluebell forests like this one their name.

The beautiful nature filled with spring blooms attract visitors (and photographers) to Hallerbos and to other forests like it in droves. Foggy conditions are especially good for photographers, giving the woods a mysterious and ghostly atmosphere.

Dense super bloom of bluebells on the forest floors are usually an indicator that the forest in question is very old. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the trees in the area are old, only that the area has consistently remained wooded for at least 300-400 years. Australian photographer Sean Scott captured the remarkable shot of two sharks within a crystal clear wave. In addition to his amazing shark photography, the photographer has an incredible portfolio of gorgeous waves and wildlife.

Sean Scott spends much of his time surrounded by the blue ocean. He reflects the beauty of the landscape and the creatures that inhabit it. One of his most remarkable pictures was snapped a couple of years ago. It displays the great power of waves and how they can envelop any creature, no matter how big or small. The image features two sharks inside of a large ocean wave.

The loss of physical mobility, or never having it to begin with, can make it seem like the world is passing you by. There is a saying that “the world is made for right-handers”, and any southpaw would probably be able to identify with that.


A similar thing could be said about folks who are able-bodied and those who are not. This world is made for people who can get around. Of course, we have wheelchair ramps, and as time goes on we become more conscious of the struggles of others. We learn how to make life easier for others. But every once in a while something way outside the box comes around. Ideas are hatched. Someone asks “how can this wheelchair rider get to the top of that mountain?” “How can that wheelchair rider feel the sand between his toes, maybe for the first time ever?”

Hit The Trail
An organization known as Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes is making molehills out of mountains for differently-abled visitors to a national park in Michigan. The “track chair” has special treads to navigate the steep hills and sandy trails of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.

“Here at Sleeping Bear Dunes, about half the park is designated wilderness so in those areas we can’t do a lot of maintenance or changes (to increase accessibility) … so the better option is to have a vehicle that can take the person into these areas so they can experience the trail as it is without having to make major modifications,” said Kerry Kelly, chairman of the group’s board.

Expansion seems imminent. Currently, the track chair can only be rented for use on the 1.5-mile long Bay View Trail, but it’s already a huge hit. Rental is free right now, but you’ll have to reserve it far in advance. They are looking forward to getting another one soon!

Hit The Beach
In California, they are doing something similar. Motorized wheelchairs with big fat tire treads make it possible to get out on the sand, which is wonderful news for any beach baby. If you know that pull the ocean can have on your heart, then you know what it’s like to be united with it once again. For some, there is nothing like the feel of sand between your toes. As one website puts it “we rent experiences, not wheelchairs” and that sums this up nicely.

Freedom Is Yours
Ultimately what this is really about, is giving people their lives back. Some of the most beautiful experiences in life are to be had at the tops of mountains or the edge of the ocean. The cure for anything, they say, is salt: tears, sweat, or the sea.

The inventors of these chairs understand. They know what it feels like to be so full of life, and wonder at life, that it’s all about to make you burst. They acknowledge that has been lost for some people, and their brilliant minds have brought about a solution. But it’s really not heavy-duty wheelchairs they’ve brought. It’s life… raw human experience that they’ve brought… and that’s so beautiful.

A UK-based landscape photographer recently traveled to a moor in Western Scotland to take pictures of a beautiful, solitary tree standing in the middle of the icy wasteland.

While he was there he encountered something even more spectacular than the tree – a mysterious white rainbow that looked like something right out of a frozen fairy tale.

“I had never seen anything like it in my 10 years capturing landscape photos around the globe or even in my 44 years of life,” Melvin Nicholson told ABC News.

Nicholson remembered it being “incredibly misty” as he and a friend hiked up toward the tree, and just as they arrived “the sun started to rise behind us, burning off the mist, and at that point, the fogbow appeared.”

Within 5 minutes the colorless rainbow disappeared.

“I knew I had captured something fairly special when I realized how transient it was,” he said.

According to NASA, the white rainbow is called a “fogbow” – a reflection of sunlight by water drops similar to a rainbow but without the colors.

The lack of colors is caused because water droplets of fog are much smaller than those of rain.

They are so tiny that “the quantum mechanical wavelength of light smears out colors” that would be created by larger water droplets, which act like small prisms, NASA says.

When an Australian botanist saw a rainbow eucalyptus tree for the first time, he thought someone had painted the bark … but he soon discovered it was Mother Nature.

Native to Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Philippines, the rainbow eucalyptus is one of only 4 eucalyptus species (out of 700 total) not found in Australia.

The tree prefers the wetter, warmer climate of South-East Asian rainforests.

“You could easily compare the colors to what you’d see in your average four-pack of assorted highlighters,” Australian Geographic reports.

As the tree sheds its bark, it exposes different colors over time.

When a piece of bark is peeled or falls off, the section of trunk underneath is “bright green when first exposed, and then turns to red, orange and purple tones and then back to brown as the bark matures,” explains Brett Summerell, chief botanist at Royal Botanic Garden Sydney.

“This process isn’t unusual– the forest red gum, spotted gum and others do it too – it’s just that the color changes are way outside the norm seen for eucalyptus.”


Brett and his team have successfully planted a rainbow eucalyptus in Australia, but he says the bark colors are not as pronounced outside its natural habitat.
Unfortunately, its natural habitat (South-East Asia) is being threatened by logging and use for firewood.

Normally found in the Arctic, a snowy owl made his way down to Montreal and accidentally posed for a photo shoot mid flight!

It happens to the best of us. Christmas time comes around, and we try to get in the holiday spirit. But for one reason or another, it’s just not happening. Not at the moment, at least. But we push forward and play along anyway — and end up looking like the Husky below! 😀

Anuko the Husky is famous for his grumpy look that’s greatly exaggerated by the dark black mask around his face. But the look is deceiving. According to his owner, Jasmine, Anuko is actually a kind dog who shows great enthusiasm for fun things in life. He’s not a big cuddler, but the Husky follows mom around everywhere. The dog even helped Jasmine out a lot with some mental health issues she was experiencing at the time she decided to bring him into her life.

Even though he isn’t actually grumpy, the Husky’s unimpressed looks have resulted in a hilariously awkward Christmas card photo shoot, and it’s too perfect. Take a look at the photos below — you won’t be able to help but laugh!
