Crocodiles are thought to have eaten a South African hunter after human remains were found inside two animals. Scott van Zyl disappeared last week after he went on a hunting safari in Zimbabwe. Accompanied by a pack of dogs and a Zimbabwean tracker, the professional hunter who organises trips for foreign clients is thought to have been eaten by crocodiles on the bank of the Limpopo River.

It is believed Mr van Zyl and his tracker left their truck and walked in different directions into the bush. The dogs later returned to the camp without Mr van Zyl, whose belongings were found inside the vehicle. Rescue teams were sent to search for the hunter and helicopters, trackers and divers all scoured the region.

His tracks were later spotted leading to the banks of the river and his backpack was located nearby. Sakkie Louwrens, a member of one of the search teams, said police suspected two Nile crocodiles may have eaten Mr Van Zyl.

“We found what could possibly be human remains in them,” he told The Telegraph. Forensic experts are currently testing whether the remains belong to Mr van Zyl.

The SS Pro Safaris website, owned by Mr van Zyl, states the company "has conducted numerous safaris" throughout Southern Africa. These include "elephants in Botswana to the smallest blue duiker in KwaZulu Natal".

It goes on to list buffalo, rhino, lions, leopards and antelopes as targets for hunts. There have been previous incidents in southern Zimbabwe of people being killed by crocodiles.

A man taking his dog for a walk decides to play a little hide and seek behind a tree. When the precious pup realizes his owner is not behind him anymore, his reaction is just like that of a parent who lost track of their child in public.

But don't worry, it has a happy ending and I'm sure he got plenty of hugs afterwards.

“They are probably the closest we will come to meeting an intelligent alien,” said Peter Godfrey-Smith in his piece “The Mind of an Octopus” which was published in Scientific American Mind.

One family find out just how human-like the creatures are after saving an octopus that was stranded on a beach.
“We spent our Holidays at the Red Sea,” their YouTube video caption reads. “While walking along a lonely beach we saw a stranded octopus in the sand. We were not sure if he is already dead. So we pushed him back into the water.”

They thought that would be the last they ever saw of the octopus but the next day they found out this wasn’t the case.
“He needed some minutes to recover, then he swam away. Next day we went to the same beach for a walk,” the caption reads. “While walking along the beach we saw a shadow in the water coming very quickly to us. It was our octopus we rescued yesterday! He recognized us!”

Not only did the octopus recognize them but it seemed to be very fond of the family and grateful for their efforts to rescue him.

“He accompanied with us a long time while we walked along the beach, all the time tried to touch our feet,” the caption reads. “We are sure that this Octopus came back to thank us for saving his life. It’s amazing how intelligent animals are.”


Of course animals are intelligent! Humans are just one of thousands of species living that were all created by and put here on this planet by the same act of God or Science (whatever you believe), so it would be silly to think that we would be the only ones with intelligence and emotions.

One thing this family decided after their encounter with the octopus, who they named Kurt, is that they will never eat octopus again.
