There were plenty of happy tears shed when a stolen Husky reunited with his family two years after he went missing. Semper the Siberian Husky was reunited with his mom, Kameroun Mares, but his return home was a long and arduous journey.

Kameroun Mares was getting chemotherapy for acute lymphoblastic leukemia back in 2013 when she got Semper as a puppy. She named him Semper Fidelis — “Always faithful” in Latin, but a few years into her treatment, the unthinkable happened.

In 2016, Kameroun traveled to California from Florida, leaving Semper in the care of her then roommate. But while out west she received word that Semper had gone missing.


She searched everywhere, but he had vanished. She continued to search even as she lived in California, posting to the internet and continually calling rescues and shelters throughout Florida. She was hoping someone would find Semper and have him scanned as he had a microchip.

She reached out to Ana Campos, a private investigator for more help. That’s when Campos learned something strange. Kameroun had registered Semper with AKC Reunite – a service connected to his microchip.



“A year into this someone suggested she [Kameroun] check her AKC Reunite chip again. So she went to the humane society in May 2017 and they checked online … That is when she discovered that a year earlier, on April 11, 2016, a woman added her name to Semper’s chip,” Campos told The Dodo.

The other microchip company didn’t bother to check to see whether Semper’s chip had an owner already registered on it. Campos dug further and found that someone had listed Semper on Craigslist for $200. That’s why Kameroun had never found him – he had been “flipped”.

According to Campos, it was Kameroun’s roommate who sold Semper. “He was stolen and sold by her roommate 2 1/2 years ago,” Campos wrote on Facebook. “She was told he was lost on April 30, 2016. But on April 11, 2016 the buyer added their name to his AKC Reunite ‘registered chip’. They registered this registered chip on Petkey pets instead. Petkey pets did not bother to see if he was chipped already.”

After a lawyer was retained, a judge ruled in Kameroun’s favor and Semper was retrieved from the person who bought him, and returned to Kameroun.




Finally after 2.5 years of searching and hoping to find him, Kameroun was about to be reunited with Semper. Here is a video of that emotional moment.

Kameroun says that Semper still remembers the commands she taught him and is settling in nicely to his new home in California. “I see him as extension of myself and my heart,” Kameroun said. “I am glad I have him back in my arms.”

It’s a known fact that humans outlive most animals. But tortoises are definitely an exception, and one of them was actually able to reach the ripe age of 187. 

In summer 2018, authorities from the Australian city of Kwinana installed a new filtration system in the Henley Reserve. This system is unbelievably simple. Both the government and the citizens quickly saw the benefits of using it, and they are as content as can be.

It consists of a net placed on the outlet of a drainage pipe that helps to capture debris and keep the environment protected from contamination.

The pipes drain water from residential areas to natural areas. The trash and litter from those places can be overwhelming and be harmful to the environment. Furthermore, this trash is usually washed away by heavy rains which pulls it all down to the drainage systems.


The city authorities started by installing two nets and were surprised at the results, as their new filtration system managed to catch over 800 pounds of garbage within some weeks.

So, it's been decided to install those litter “traps” all over the city and minimize the pollution to the wildlife and surrounding environment. Although the installation and the manufacture of these nets cost money (approximately $10,000 each), the overall system is still quite profitable as they provide significant cost savings going forward. For instance, they now save on the labor costs they previously had to pay for people that would collect all the litter manually.


When the nets get full, they're then lifted, and the trash is put into special collecting trucks and transported to a trash-sorting center. There, it all gets divided into non-recyclable and recyclable material, which then move on for further processing.





The nets are then put back on the drainage outlets and continue doing their work.


The new filtration system proves that small things matter. Focusing on them can have a significant and positive impact on our environment and humanity in general.

An initiative that began as a side job has become an active attempt in helping the environment. Hailing from Paraiba, Brazil, Amarildo Silva wanted to find ways to add some money to his cashier income. Seeing that there was plenty of useless waste on the street, he came up with the idea of repurposing old tires.

Whenever he has free time, Amarildo collects discarded tires, and gives them a new life by transforming them into special animal beds. He has already sold more than 500 pieces to date. He mostly delivers inside Brazil but his efforts have become so popular, he already has orders from Europe, North America and Asia.

Aside from the animal beds, he also added flowerpots and recycling containers to his portfolio of creations. His works has become so popular that he is now being asked to speak to young people in different public schools.

Amarildo Silva lives in Paraiba, Brazil. He has found a way to help the environment while creating something animals will love.He collects as many old, discarded tires as he can.
He then repurposes the tires into something so useful, you’ll wonder why no one has thought of it before.
He makes animal beds with different designs so that each one is unique.
He also adds a circular mattress for additional comfort.The results? These colorful and attractive sleeping animal beds.
