One striking difference is the Nicobar pigeon’s vibrant plumage that shines in iridescent blues, coppers, and greens—in addition to its reddish legs and small white tail. This colorful characteristic developed because of their location; the bird has long been isolated on small islands and lacked natural predators.

 Because there’s no need to conceal themselves, they were able to develop the brilliant feathers. The Nicobar pigeon resides in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, from the Indian Nicobar Islands eastward to places like Thailand and Papua New Guinea. 

Although its exact population count is unclear, the species is in decline because of deforestation and the release of non-native predators (like rats and cats) to these islands.

The vandals are quick to replace the obscenities as soon as authorities take them down. The failure of efforts to combat the graffiti has undoubtedly discouraged Manchester residents, some who fought in the trenches against the ideas those spray painted swastikas represent in a World War. 

It’s a frustrating sight, and enough to stir action in a new type of hero. A local resident, or perhaps a group of people, has been covering up the graffiti with stickers featuring cute cats.

“There was some racist rubbish here but I covered it up with a picture of a cat,” the clever placards read. 

 As well as graffiti and racist rhetoric, the stickers have been used to cover up deliberately misleading campaigns that denigrate immigrants. 

According to the Manc, posters linking climate action group Extinction Rebellion to racist and anti-immigrant policies have recently been spread through the city, now the targets of cat stickers.  The stickers are available in 30-packs for $14, and may soon show up in other cities as this movement catches on. 

 Manchester isn’t the only place in the world facing the blight of graffiti and hate speech, but it is the source of the best solution to the problem that we’ve ever seen. Heroes come in a lot of different forms. In Manchester, they carry stickers of cats. 

  “Love this idea,” one viewer commented. 

“I used to spend hours scraping racist stickers from bus stops.” 

  “Can’t we just replace racists with cats?” Another asked. “At least they know how to cover their sh*t.”

He went fishing for perch in the frozen Ob River when saw movement in a distant ice hole. Fearing a fellow angler had fallen in, he skied over to check. 

  'Half way there, I realised that this was not a man but an animal. I came closer and saw a young moose,' he said. 'It fell through right in the middle of the channel, where the depth is about 1.5 - 2 metres. 

 'It was very sad to see the animal like this, it was clear that it could not get out by itself, it was shaking already. The ice around the hole was about 4 centimetres thick, so I could stand there only on skis. There was no-one around to help.' 

 He called his wife and asked her to call the emergency services, but they made clear they do not deal with animal rescues. 'I had two options - to drag the moose or to hack a passage to the shore. When my father arrived, we decided to try the first option. 

I made a lasso and managed to throw the rope around the neck of the animal at the third attempt. I tried to do it so the animal didn't choke. 'We began to pull the moose. Luckily, it turned on its side and got its front hooves on to ice, so we dragged it for about 20 metres. Then it fell through again closer to the shore, but there was not deep, and we pulled it out easily. 

 He took the rope off its neck and tied one leg instead. His reward was unexpected gratitude from the wild animal as he got a moose smooch. 'The moose calmly lay down and was trembling,' he said. 'For 30 minutes, we were trying to somehow rub it to warm it up. The moose had no convulsions, it was just shocked.

 The mini-lake had pooled at the end of the river, blocking access to the beach. The female leatherback had just laid her eggs and got completely turned around, he said. 

 The 17-year-old Pereira, an aspiring marine biologist, guided the turtle back to the ocean. 

  "It felt great knowing I had given back something to the ocean that had filled me with so much wonderment and awe," he wrote to The Huffington Post in an email. 

 He added that he spoke to a turtle conservationist later that day who told him that the leatherback would have died in the river had he not rescued it. 

The turtle is known to be of cultural significance to tribes all over the world.
