Abandoned Chinese Fishing Village Reclaimed by Nature

This is what “civilization” looks like after just 30 years without humans

Just half a century ago,Houtouwan was a bustling fishing village on a Chinese island.

But by the 1990s, all the fisherman who couldn’t compete with the corporate fishing industry had to move back to the mainland.

Only 30 years later, the village has almost disappeared under a thick blanket of green.
In its hey day, the island village was home to about 2000 residents, who lived in about 500 houses.
Now many of those homes have fallen walls, collapsed roofs, or are buried under thick brambles, creepers and climbing ivy.
The dirt roads that once connected the homes are completely invisible.
