Due a terrible accident, the four-legged officer got deadly injured. Lied on the ground, the poor horse was living her very last moments, with her friend comforting her, in a very dramatic scene! Companions for over four years – since she was part of the Houston Police Department – Charlotte and officer D. Herrejon, were patrolling on the streets of the city, when something terrible happened. 

All of a sudden, the horse got spooked and run right in the middle of the street, where she got hit by a truck. Officer Herrejon who eventually fell off her back when she got startled, was looking in disbelief. 

But unfortunately, it was too late for the police horse! With her leg broken and other injuries, Charlotte was having her final breaths, right there in the middle of the street. 

Heartbroken, officer Herrejon couldn’t believe his eyes, but all he could do was to be next to his faithful partner in her last moments. So he lied on the ground, next to Charlotte, put his arms around her neck and his head onto hers, and offered her some comfort. 

A truly heartbreaking moment as the two were sharing an incredible bond! Later that day, the Houston Police Department confirmed their loyal police horse had gone, and they paid tribute to her in an emotional Facebook post. “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlotte, an HPD Mounted Patrol horse, who passed in the line of duty this morning…”the post reads. 

“Charlotte came to HPD as an unstarted 2-year old Tennessee Walker from Oklahoma….She loved her job and was always ready to go to work putting bad guys in jail or giving nuzzles to children. She served the citizens of Houston for 4 years. She will be missed!” The Police Department also shared a few photos of Charlotte during her life of service to the citizens of Houston!

 Like one state trooper, who recently helped find a forever home for three stray puppies after finding them on duty. The story comes from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

 Trooper Susan Barge responded to a hit-and-run crash on Saturday when she noticed three puppies under the porch of a nearby home.

  The trooper sensed that the puppies were in need of help. The temperature was set to drop into the 30s that night, and Barge knew that the dogs would be suffering in the cold. 

 So, she stepped in to help. She spoke with the homeowners, and agreed to take the puppies herself and help find homes for them.

  The trooper’s actions went above-and-beyond the line of duty: she never expected to find the puppies and they were unrelated to the call she was responding to, but she still did it out of the kindness of her heart. 

 And thankfully, the story has a very happy ending: FHP reports that all three puppies have now been adopted into “furever families.” Trooper Barge’s good deed received praise from people online. 

  “Such Beautiful Story, &Wonderful Ending!” one comment reads. 

“Thank you for being their voice and stepping in when other humans would have clearly failed them,” another reads. 

  “Precious pups, I’m so glad you found furever homes for them. Thank you for your service.”

Winter’s weight was not given. “She’s beautiful,” Mike Stura, founder of Skylands Animal Sanctuary, said about Winter. “She ended up safe. It’s fortunate.” Winter’s mother, later named Brianna, escaped a cattle truck driving on Route 80 and on its way to the abattoir on Thursday around 2.40 am. 

The police then chased Brianna all along Route 80. According to Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale, Brianna kicked the door of the cattle trailer wide open. 

 She then jumped onto the highway. After Brianna was captured, the animal sanctuary took her in. “She was less than 10 minutes away from that slaughterhouse when she flew out of the truck,” the sanctuary wrote on its Facebook page. 

 They both are safe and sound and now live in the sanctuary. Earlier this week, the calf Winter took its first steps.
