Thankfully, the hilarious moment was caught on tape by director and photographer, Eric J Smith and it now went viral! The marine life enthusiasts were all patiently waiting in their boat with the cameras on, but they nearly missed the spectacular sight as the massive whale decided to trick them. 

The group was offshore Baja California in Mexico, waiting for a lifetime opportunity, but they were all looking the wrong way while the whale popped up its head behind them. The animal lovers got lucky though, as they turned their heads just in time to grab some adorable snaps with the magnificent creature. 

Just like it have known the curios sightseers missed the first opportunity, the humpback whale offered them other glimpse of it. 

This time, the moment was even celebrated by some of the whale watchers. Photographer Eric Smith, who witnessed the whole scene could not believe his eyes what he was seeing. 

“She slowly and silently stuck her head high above the water to look around,” the 49-year-old said. “When everyone turned around, she quickly sank below the surface. 

Cheering and hysterical laughter ensued. “I was in another panga [boat] a few dozen feet away and caught the moment right before everyone realized she was so close. Whale photography involves a lot of luck, but the key is to always be on alert and ready.”

There’s something in their protective instincts that makes them look after a young child. That was the case last month, after a mother dog was found with an abandoned newborn, helping to keep her warm in the freezing cold. 

According to SWNS, locals in the Chhattisgarh province of India found the newborn in a field after hearing her crying. She was apparently abandoned by her parents: The baby was naked and still had the umbilical cord attached. 

However, she wasn’t alone: the locals found her with a mother dog and her puppies, who were seemingly keeping the baby warm overnight by laying beside her. The bystanders concluded that the dog’s motherly instincts likely saved the child’s life during the overnight temperature drop. 

“It’s possibly the warmth from puppies and their mother itself who had kept this new born alive,” one anonymous local told SWNS. Officers arrived on the scene to handle the case, and the newborn, now named Akanksha, was taken to the hospital and examined by doctors. 

A criminal investigation is now ongoing to find the infant’s neglectful parents: “They are not parents, they are criminals,” a local named Premnath said. While it’s a heartbreaking situation, it’s still a miracle that the baby survived at all, thanks to this caring mother dog. 

What a miracle. Thank god this dog was there to keep this poor newborn warm and alive during the cold night.

So it is understandable that people have learned to love them, and with the idea of combining the best of both worlds, the wolf dog was born, since both belong to the Canis species. And if you see Yuki, you will not doubt that she is a wolf dog, one of the most “wolf” of the sanctuary she is in. 

“His DNA test says he is 87.5% grey wolf, 8.6% Siberian Husky and 3.9% German Shepherd,” said Brittany Allen, of the Shy Wolf Sanctuary.

The photo has attracted a lot of attention, something that was needed to tell the tragic and moving story of this majestic wolf-dog that received a second chance thanks to the Shy Wolf sanctuary. 

“We rescued him from a difficult situation. They bought him from a breeder, but realized he was too big to handle. They abandoned him in a shelter when he was only 8 months old to be put down. Then we came and provided him with a home, he’s been with us ever since.” Photo credit: Shy Wolf Sanctuary

At first he was very outgoing and we considered using him as an ambassador. But soon after he got a wound on his hind leg. He needed 5 operations to recover, and in that time Yuki became more aggressive especially when he was in a cage.” 

The volunteers at the sanctuary have been sharing photos of Yuki since 2012, and their impressions of her personality: “He loves women, showing off to visitors and fooling around.” “Yuki lets you know if he wants you in his compound or not. There’s a small group of women he lets in, and we call them his ‘harem’,” explained Judy, a volunteer who gained Yuki’s trust. The Shy Wolf Sanctuary Education & Experience Center was founded in 2001 by Nancy Smith, and provides sanctuary and rehabilitation for wild and captive-bred wolves and other exotic animals. 

This 2.5-acre property in Naples, Florida, is the permanent home to 60 animals each year. Its mission is to “reconnect people and animals through education,” so the staff and 30 active volunteers help the animals and educate people about the importance of protecting them. 

Wolf dogs are considered unsuitable for domestic animal services, so this sanctuary is literally their last chance to get help and find a home. “They are creatures that demand respect. It would be a very different encounter if it were in nature. The animals I work with have never lived in nature and never will, so they are more socialized. 

And we also give them the opportunity for a decent life, otherwise they would be sacrificed,” Brittany said. Most wolves stay away from people, without being aggressive, but wolf dogs are unique. They have a mixture of traits that makes their behavior less predictable than that of a wolf or a dog. 

So, by adopting them, they are a unique challenge and people are not aware of it. Especially if they are bought as pups, it is impossible to predict how much wolf there will be in the animal. “They’re harder in my opinion, because you don’t know exactly how much wolf and dog behavior they’ll have. Yuki is not necessarily more sociable than pure wolves. 

Both are social with the people they accept, but very selective. It applies to others too, when they accept you, the bond is unique.” “Today, Yuki is one of the most interesting animals in the sanctuary. It’s not easy to meet him, but he has made friends with some volunteers. 

We call him ‘Woowoo’ because it’s the noise he makes when he sees them, so they go and spend time with him,” said Jeremy Albrecht. After years of taking care of Yuki, the sanctuary received the sad news that he is suffering from blood cancer, although it is not noticeable at first sight. 

It seems that life continues to challenge Yuki, but we are sure that SWS is the right place for her to receive love, care and treatment.
