That was the story for one dog, who became trapped in a dam after being abandoned by his owners, until firefighters came to the rescue — and thankfully this dog now has a new family. 

According to 5 News Online, the white dog was in the Lake Wister Dam in LeFlore County, standing on a concrete flat but surrounded by rushing water and in danger of being swept up by the current.

  Madison Renee and her family were among the onlookers who arrived on the scene, worried about the dog but unable to get down to help her. 

“When we got there, there seemed to be no way to get down to her,” Madison told 5 News. “We all stood around and watched her try to adjust in the current hoping she wouldn’t be swept under.” 

They also realized the poor dog was likely thrown over intentionally, as it was the only way the dog could’ve gotten into that spot. 

But thankfully, help was soon on the way. Members of the Wister Fire Department volunteered to make a rescue. After requesting the dam be temporarily shut off, they arrived by boat and were able to reach the dog with a rope.

  Volunteer firefighter Aaron Capell says the dog was “scared” and “skittish” when they arrived, but soon warmed up to them: “I talked to her and eventually, she let me pet her,” he told 5 News. 

After the life-saving rescue, the dog, now named Grace, was taken to the Poteau Valley Humane Society.

  Thankfully, the dog’s story soon found a happy ending. James and Paula Watson, from Charleston, Arkansas, saw the story on TV and immediately “fell in love” with Grace, according to an update from 5 News. 

It turns out one of the couple’s rescue dogs had died just three weeks earlier, and seeing the abandoned dog on TV, they knew it was meant to be and they could give Grace a good home. 

After visiting Grace at Poteau Valley Humane Society, they knew their love was for real and adopted her for good.

 

“There’s nothing like being hugged by a big dog,” Paula told 5 News. “If you’ve ever been hugged by a big dog, then you’ll know what I mean.” 

“There’s a look that you get when that’s the right dog. And she has that look.”

Winnie the Cocker Spaniel has some incredibly gorgeous eyes – they’ve already mesmerized plenty of people online. While she may only be three months old, Winnie has already accumulated 230,000 followers on Instagram.

  So it happens that each now during a shot flowing through a window like a face, the moving scene appears which makes you silent and invite you to reflect some moments about the value of truth what exactly. On Instagram posted the image of a homeless man who holds a dog on his arm, a scene that contains the equivalent of the sadness of misery, but also the tenderness of compassion and therefore light hope. 

As often happens, everyone tends to ensure what they need, touch as in the Rorschach stain test, and tasks out what they truly convey inside. Among the possibility of reading, someone cannot help but think that, even though it is a representation of poverty and what it means to measure on the road, this photo conveys an important message. 

That person and his puppy rest calmly among all, giving one affection and luxury. Foreigners are not alone, but can trust the unconditional love of a loyal friend, guardian soul without wings but with four paws.

It’s also left many people separated from their beloved pets, whether they’re split at the border or lost amidst the chaos of war. 

Thankfully, there are also people who are working hard to reunite people with their pets. Recently, one cat made it back to his family after being transported from Ukraine to the United States. Larysa Frisby, from Ukraine, was in Arkansas when the invasion began in February, and thus avoided having to flee the conflict. However, her cat Persik was still in Odesa, and she was unsure how to get him to safety. 

“With the outbreak of hostilities on February 24 in Ukraine, it was hard to believe how this could happen,” Larysa told 5 News Online. “My plans collapsed with the advent of the war to return home to Ukraine and visit my relatives and take the cat with me.” 

But soon Humane Society International, which has been helping refugees with pets at the Polish border find safety, heard her story and stepped in to help. 

Larysa’s cousin was able to transport Persik from Odesa to Warsaw, Poland. And from there, Kelly Donithan, director of animal disaster response for the Humane Society, was able to fly with the cat from Poland to the US. “This single story of one cat, Persik, is emblematic of Humane Society International has seen through the chaos and trauma of this war: strangers and communities coming together to help one another however they can, including beloved animals,” Kelly said. 

“Larysa nearly lost hope of ever seeing Persik, but someone always jumped in to assist and bring this cat out of the war and ultimately to his mom. I am grateful that I was able to help finally get him home.” After arriving in the United States, Persik’s long journey was finally over as he reunited with his loving owner, far from the war in Ukraine. “By the grace of God, the cat is in my home with love and care,” Larysa told 5 News. 

“I want to express special gratitude to the people who took part in saving my cat from the war in Ukraine, to everyone who provided help and care in Warsaw for several weeks.” “While incredibly special, this is not a unique story. We are seeing compassion every day across Ukraine, Europe and around the world,” Kelly said.
