They received news from the shelter the puppies reached their “deadline.” The shelter scheduled the dogs’ euthanization.
Their post was a cry for help posted on Facebook:

• “I’m Kala. This is Keira we’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just said that today is our deadline. We need someone to rescue us or we’ll be “next.”

• “She tells me to be brave too but I don’t know if I can be. Can you see our faces. Keira knows what will happen. You can see it in her eyes. She’s putting on a brave face for sure but I can feel her heart beating fast while I’m clinging to her.

• If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me. I’ll see her as she goes down the hallway. She won’t come back and I’ll cry. They’ll come for me next and I won’t be as brave. We’ve comforted each other while we were here. She gave me hope when I had none. Now it’s over. Unless…”

A murmuration is the intricately choreographed movements of a large flock of starlings as they swoop through the sky. The phenomena appears like an undulating cloud, quickly shifting directions, density and shape as it traverses overhead.

Due to a relatively warm winter in the Netherlands between 2014 and 2015, many starlings stayed in the country rather than migrating south.

Recently, we have been hearing tons of stories about dogs being left out at cold, leading them to very unfortunate conditions. Some lose their paws due to frostbite, while others simply can’t fight the cold and give up on their lives. Because of a minor insensibility of their owners, poor dogs have to go through the most horrific fate.


But now, finally, the lawmakers have decided to put this entire problem to an end. Pennsylvania recently signed a law last June, House Bill 1238, also known as Libre’s Law, which protects the pets against cruelty, abuse and neglect. Now, as a part of the same law, they have restricted leaving pets in harsh winter conditions as well. According to the law, the owner of the pet will be charged with a felony if found doing so.




It also states that the owner cannot be left outside for more than 30 minutes in temperatures above 90 or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Any owner to break this rule may have to face felony animal cruelty charges, including 7 years in prison and a fine of $15,000.


It is a great way to put animal negligence and abuse to an end. With so many cases of them being tortured, the authorities encourage people to call 911 immediately in case they witness any such incident.

In March 2018, firefighters in Colorado Springs received a call about a litter of eight little puppies abandoned in a storm drain. The firefighters quickly headed over to the area. They hoped they would be able to the save the puppies before it was too late.

A Ring app caught an unexpectedly friendly moment when a squirrel jumped onto the back of a UPS driver as he made a delivery.

"I was just there bobbing my head jamming to music, and all of a sudden I felt a tug. It startled me," Oscar Luciano said. "The only thing that went through my mind is, my wife would never believe what just happened to me."

"I felt like Snow White with all her animal friends," he added.

Meet Ruuxa the cheetah and Raina the dog from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. These two furry creatures truly represent an embodiment of the phrase ‘best friends forever,’ and their story is one that will warm your heart.

A mother cheetah will have a litter with 3 to 5 cubs, but they can have up to nine cubs in one litter. At the San Diego Zoo, Ruuxa was the only cub in his litter. Mother cheetahs will often abandoned single cubs because their instincts tell them that the one pup won’t survive in the wild.

So, when Ruuxa was abandoned by his mother, the zoo staff stepped in. The zoo staff wanted to give the baby cheetah a companion since he had no siblings, they chose Raina, an 8-week old Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy!

The zoo plans to have Raina and Ruuxa spend their lives together. Raina’s body language will help keep Ruuxa calm if the zoo ever needs to move him to another habitat or when he faces an unfamiliar situation.

It wasn’t long before the zookeepers realized Ruuxa’s front legs were not developing properly. He had been born with a growth abnormality called chondrodysplasia. Ruuxa’s legs were not growing straight, they were growing in a bow shape.

Keepers were worried this would prevent Ruuxa from being able to run. The zoo’s veterinarians performed corrective surgery on September 3, 2014.

Raina never left her buddy alone. During Ruuxa’ recovery, Raina was there. She was gentle with him and left his bandages alone.

Thanks to Raina, Ruuxa completely recovered! Today, at one and a half years old, Ruuxa competes in the Shiley’s Cheetah Run! Ruuxa and Raina, are more like siblings than friends.

The Shelter Buddies Reading Program, which is organised by the Humane Society of Missouri, pairs children between 6 and 15 years of age with traumatised or shy dogs to help them get used to having people around.

Now, this isn’t just some wishy-washy volunteering exercise; the kids train for 10 hours before they’re actually assigned a dog to read to and the results are amazing! Oh and the kids get something out of it too… practice.


“We wanted to help our shy and fearful dog without forcing physical interaction with them to see the positive effect that could have on them,” program director Jo Klepacki.

“Ideally that shy and fearful dog will approach and show interest. If so, the kids reenforce that behavior by tossing them a treat.”


“Hearing a child reading can really calm those animals. It is incredible, the response we’ve seen in these dogs.”

The charity wants to extend the program to all of its shelters in the US so that hundred of dogs (and cats too) will benefit from the idea.

At a year old, Buster had never known anything besides the loneliness and neglectfulness that came with his current lifestyle. The dog stayed tied out on a chain at all times, and it became embedded in his neck causing a deep, painful wound. Then one day, some PETA fieldworkers found him…


They noticed the dog’s neck wound and skin condition and approached the owners. Thankfully, the family handed to dog over to PETA. While Buster got the treatment he needed and recovered, they searched for the perfect forever home for him.


And he got just that! Adoption day had arrived, and Buster was on his way to a place he could truly call home for the first time in his life. As he waits at the door for his new family to answer, try not to cry. 😉

Dogs are loyal to their owners, no matter what. They love their owners and would do anything for them. But some of us fail to recognize their preciousness and commit the crime of treating them anything less than they deserve to be treated. Carla was one of these unfortunate dogs.

Residents of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania spotted Carla sitting in the snow, waiting for her family to come back to her and take her back to her warm house. Little did she know that she was abandoned by them and they would never return to her.

The concerned people contacted a rescuer named Janine Guido, the founder of Speranza Animal Rescue.


Guido immediately set off to rescue Carla and was heartbroken to see Carla full of hopes to see her family. Then, Guido posted a post about Carla on her rescue’s Facebook page in which she mentioned that Carla had been waiting for five full days.

Guido accompanied Carla for three days, hand- feeding her, which she thankfully accepted. However, when she tried to put a leash on her, Carla ran away.


She also said that a number of people attempted to catch Carla but failed because she was too scared. So, Guido encouraged whoever saw Carla to keep from feeding, chasing or trying to catch her.

A few days later, someone called Guido informing that Carla was on someone’s back porch but ran away.


Someone informed Carla shortly after that she was back at the same porch again and Guido didn’t waste a minute to go rescue her.

Guido struggled for a few more days before finally being able to rescue Carla. She then immediately took Carla to the vet, where she discovered that she was probably a sheltie mix and around 10 years of age.

Carla was also underweight and infested with fleas, along with minor frostbite on her paws and possible arthritis.




Then, before she gave up herself to sleep, she ate some nice food and got a nice warm bath.

Now, Carla is in her foster home for recovery. As soon as she recovers fully, she will be put up for adoption.


Meanwhile, Carla is having a great time in her foster home. She enjoys going for walks with the rest of her foster siblings.

Things in life can sometimes get on top of us and we can feel really bad, but this note really had broken our hearts…
The dog called Shell had a lovely owner, someone that wanted to really ensure that her very sweet girl really did find a caring and loving home.

That is really what happened here because it was just last week the little doggie was given to the Stray Rescue of St. Louis with a heartbreaking note attached to the poor dog.

The letter reads like this:

“I am writing you cause I need you to take my dog Shell. My mother adopted Shell from Stray Rescue around 2009-2010 … In 2012 she had a massive stroke and now has Alzheimers. So in 2012 Shell came to live with me. I’ve been fighting cancer for a few months and if you’re reading this I lost my battle. I need for my baby girl to be taking [sic] care of in a home with one person.

Shell is a very sweet little girl. She’s been threw [sic] a lot so she has trouble with trust in the beginning. She loves to cuddle but doesn’t like to be carried. She’s very smart.”


The dog’s owner had cancer and it was for the second time, they died at their own hand just after they left the dog at the shelter.

The shelter really did want to honor the owner’s wishes and set to finding a perfect home and a perfect person to adopt the dog.

The shelter received many after many requests for the dog but then had the near impossible task of picking the best one for the lovely dog, to honor the owners dying wishes!

They then announced on the Thursday on Facebook that Shell found her ideal match, it was a woman who had lost her beloved Stray Rescue earlier on, it was a great match!

The Facebook post said:

“She just felt so drawn to her. Wasting no time, she filled out an application and was here the very next morning. The two of them hit it off and she knew it was definitely the right time. She says Shell is already running the house, and that they are inseparable”

We and the shelter staff are truly honored to find that special person for this super special doggie and to honor those very touching requests of the previous late owner.

Now that animal abuse is being taken far more seriously than ever before, more and more jurisdictions are altering their laws to reflect this new reality. A number of United States jurisdictions have now made laws that require the names of animal abusers to be displayed in a registry that is similar to the ones that are used for sex offenders.

These registries are designed with the objective of keeping people who have harmed animals in the past from ever having the chance to do so again, and they are a welcome addition to the lawmaking policies of places as disparate as New York City and Tampa.


Retail outlets and shelters no longer have an excuse when it comes to providing animals to those who have a history of abuse, as they are required to have a prospective adopter read and sign an affidavit that provides assurance that they are not on the registry.

If you are a regular person who is in search of a pet sitter while you are away on vacation, these registries also take on added value, allowing you to vet candidates more readily and do the proper research before potentially leaving your animals in harm’s way.


The registries are not yet a requirement in all states, but they are slowly popping up throughout the country, in places like New York City (although theirs is not able to be viewed by the general public), Tennessee (whose is statewide) and Cook County, Illinois.

For those who consider pets to be family members, this is welcome news. Perhaps individuals who consider hurting animals in the future will reconsider their actions if they are aware of the fact that their name will end up on a list that is easily searchable. Having actual documentation to use makes life simpler for animal lovers, as well as law enforcement on the animal rights.

Tongki the polar bear spent his days inside a concrete pit for 21 years. During the summer, the heat was so intense that the arctic bear barely even moved. He had no way to escape the noisy zoo visitors.

He used to be the only surviving polar bear in South Korea who was about to be transferred to a sanctuary until he was found lifeless inside his enclosure a few months ago.

He was just days away from going to a British wildlife park, where he could enjoy cold temperatures and snow. However, the 24-year-old bear couldn’t make it.

Tongki lived in a theme park in South Korea named Everland, that had a zoo. Animal advocates had been criticizing this park for a long time now for keeping the bear in such unsuitable conditions. One of the members of Action for Animals groups, Jiyoung Lee, strongly advocated for Tongki.

According to Lee, back in 2015, Tongki’s exhibit was “small, barren, and terrible.” He said it didn’t have key features that could have increased his comfort, like shelter, the substrate to cover the concrete, and a proper cooling system. Temperatures easily go above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Moreover, thousands of people even signed online petitions urging the zoo to relocate Tongki to a sanctuary. Because of the extreme humidity, the poor animal had algae growing on his fur. He was very lethargic during the summers.

Tongki often displayed patterns of movements that are considered as a stereotypical behaviour caused by stress. He would stand almost motionless every day in his shallow pool.

“Korean summers are hot and humid, and they are true torture for Tongki,” advocates wrote in an online petition. “Polar bears do not have any physiological means of staying cool (such as sweat glands). Captive polar bears are often seen mimicking the same behaviour methods that dogs do in order to cool down, such as slobbering tongues and panting.”

The zoo, run by South Korean brand Samsung, announced that it would be retiring Tongkito a sanctuary earlier this year but it was too late.

Tongki can’t be brought back to life. But we still can honour him by discouraging zoos that keep polar bears in such torturing conditions and donating to conserve habitats for them.

“We are crushed that Tongki did not make it to Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where he would have had much-improved living conditions,” advocates wrote online. “Rest in peace, Tongki.”

Although baby bears are irresistibly adorable, people who work with them know it’s a better idea not to pet them, or even approach them, given that their protective moms are always watching out. 

A disturbing photo of a starving dog and her four puppies posted on Facebook went viral after the woman who shared it wanted to make sure the emaciated dogs got justice.

Janette Gonzalez shared the photo on social media after reporting it to authorities as a case of animal neglect. Her friend had taken the photo in a Pico Rivera, California neighborhood and shown it to her.

Janette is a dog owner and works at a dog store. When she saw the dogs were just “skin and bones” she immediately knew they needed help. She posted the photo after calling animal control and wrote, “I have so much pain in my heart right now I do t know what else to do but out these horrible people on blast. Help make this go viral. Something needs to happen.”


Thankfully, animal control went to investigate the home soon after receiving her call and rescued the family of dogs.

In fact, Janette says that animal control actually rescued 9 dogs from the home, including two German Shepherds and a Labrador Retriever.


The dogs are currently being housed at Southeast Area Animal Control Authority in Downey, but animal control officials are not releasing much information on the status of the dogs while an investigation is underway.

However, thanks to Janette and her friend, the dogs are in safe hands. It’s so important for people to act and bring to light animal abuse in their neighborhood, because if they don’t, dogs like the ones in this photo may not survive and get a second chance!

Social media has a tremendous power to help neglected animals, but only if people speak out!
