Adorable spotted kittens were found in a farmer’s barn. Many people living on farms have heard this scenario before. I know I have. We have two house cats that we’ve adopted that were orphaned in our barn before we even owned any cats. Most farmers can relate to this story. But these kittens were just a little bit different than your average house cat.


Realizing that the tiny spotted kittens with eyes still shut were too young to fend for themselves and not catching any sighting of the mother, the farmer called the Daursky Nature Reserve for assistance. It did not take long for the reserve experts to point out that these were not your average house cats. In fact, they were a type of rare wild cats called Pallas or Manuls. This type of wild cat can grow to about 6 pounds in weight.


Not having an available Palla to raise the orphans, the reserve did the next best thing. They enlisted the help from two domestic cats that lived at the reserve. The introductions thankfully went well and the orphan kittens were no longer motherless. The kittens now had not one but two house cats that raised them as their own.




When the kittens have grown large enough to fend for themselves, the plan is to release them back into the wild where they belong. Thanks to the farmer and the caring individuals at the reserve these kittens have a chance at a life of freedom. They would not have survived at such a young age if compassionate people would not have stepped in and given them a helping hand.

Thanks also goes out to the two surrogate house cats who took these wild orphans in without thinking twice!

One passage in Oliver Twist pulls at my heartstrings. It was when Oliver is in the orphanage, and they have just finished eating.

Oliver is still hungry. So he takes his empty bowl up to the server and asks for more. There is nothing more pitiful than a hungry child having to beg for food. Except perhaps a hungry animal in search of food.


While filming a segment to bring to light the need, homeless animals have the non-profit group called World Animal Awareness Society caught something that couldn’t have been planned.

They set out to capture what it is like to live as a homeless animal. They wanted to show people how hard life is when an animal is forced to fend for itself on the streets.

Animal rights activists in South Korea and across the globe are especially thankful this Thanksgiving eve as Taepyeong, the largest dog meat slaughterhouse in South Korea, was shuttered by local authorities.

The move comes after pressure from animal rights organizations Humane Society International/Korea, Korea Animal Rights Advocates and the Korean Animal Welfare Association. The groups and their members, as well as a number of celebrities, have been urging the nation to move away from the dog meat trade.

City authorities say they will turn the area into a neighborhood park where dogs rescued from Taepyeong or other similar facilities, may enjoy the freedom of the public space.




“Both as a Korean citizen and an animal campaigner, it was incredibly moving for me to a part of the historic closure of this notorious dog slaughterhouse,” Nara Kim, HSI/Korea’s dog meat campaigner, said in a statement. “I shudder to think how many millions of beautiful dogs will have met their horrific fate at this place over the years. It was a stain on the city of Seongnam and we are so pleased to see it bulldozed. This really feels like a landmark moment in the demise of the dog meat industry in South Korea, and sends the clear message that the dog meat industry is increasingly unwelcome in Korean society.”

HSI reports that the slaughterhouse conditions were “horrifying,” with a number of wire pens that would have housed hundreds of dogs set for electrocution, shearing and killing equipment; a pile of dead dogs was left on the floor as investigators made their way through.

“We have been making constant efforts to shut down the Taepyeong-dong dog slaughterhouse through investigations and putting pressure on Gyeonggi province and Seongnam-si,” said Hyunji Kim of Korea Animal Rights Advocates. “As Korea’s biggest, brutal, illegal dog slaughterhouse, Taepyeong-dong is notorious for supplying huge amounts of dog bodies to nearby Seongnam Moran traditional market. Its closure is an historical event, and hopefully may trigger the closure of other illegal dog slaughterhouses throughout the country. Until we achieve this, we really appreciate the support of both Korean people and global citizens who love animals for helping our campaigns to completely end dog meat in Korea.”




Korea’s Dog Meat TradeThe closing of Taepyeong comes at a particularly prescient moment as the last remaining brick and mortar vendor selling live dogs at Moran Market, once the nation’s largest dog meat market, will also cease operation.

Demand for dog meat in South Korea is on steadily declining. Like younger generations across the globe, South Korean Millennials and Gen-Zers are opting for more ethical food. Veganism is on the rise in the country. According to a survey conducted earlier this year, 70 percent of South Koreans said they will not eat dog meat.

Earlier this year a South Korean dog meat farmer freed over 200 dogs after more than a decade in the business. He shut down the dog meat farm, focusing on his herb farm instead.

The nation’s dog meat trade was highlighted this year during the Winter Olympics. Vegan two-time world champion Canadian figure skater Meagan Duhamel, urged her fellow athletes to rescued dogs while in the country — and some did. Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy worked with HSI to rescue 90 dogs otherwise destined for slaughter.

“The slaughterers in Taepyeong have long been accumulating their wealth and a huge number of dogs have been killed over the years,” says Iltaek Chae of Korea’s Animal Welfare Association, which has long campaigned against the dog meat trade. “It is hoped that the closure of this horrific dog slaughterhouse can halt the suffering of more dogs in the future, and help trigger the collapse of the dog meat industry in Korea.”

Mother nature has never stopped to get our jaws dropped every time we think we have seen everything. This time, Maura T. Hennellytook her role. She left everyone on Twitter took aback after she posted the story of her lovebirds—two completely different parrots.

When Kiwi, the male parrot, with his jolly, colourful feathers, was ironically starting to feel sad and alone in his mom’s house, Hennelly decided to bring in Siouxsie, a darker- toned female parrot to keep his company.

“Remember Kiwi & his goth gf?” Hennelly said on Twitter.“Well now she’s his goth wife, and they have 4 beautiful half goth babies.”

They look entirely different, yet amazing together, which is why people all over the world adore them!Despite their different looks, they are inseparable.
Before long, they had built a nest and to settle down.
And then, four babies were on their way into the world!

However, no one knew how the babies would end up looking like.
As they grew up, their tiny feathers started gaining colour.With the passing time, they looked nothing but more and more beautiful.
Finally, they turned into flawless tiny birds, and their family photo became picture- perfect!
Just… WOW!
No doubt this family got so many well-wishers so quickly!

Dindim is a South American Magellanic penguin whose life was saved by a Brazilian fisherman in 2011. Ever since, he journeys over 5,000 miles every year to come and visit his saviour and spend time with him.

When Joao Pereira de Souza found the penguin, he was covered in oil and close to death, trapped on some rocks on a beach off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The poor animal had been separated from his colony in Patagonia and had no hope of survival. But Joao was there to save him.

The fisherman cleaned the oil off the penguin’s feathers and fed him a daily diet of fish to rebuild his strength. He named him Dindim.

After a a couple of weeks, when the penguin was on the mend, Joao decided it was time to release the penguin back into the sea. But, the bird wasn’t going anywhere. Joao told The Independant :

"He refused to leave. He stayed with me for 11 months."

After a year, “just after he changed his coat with new feathers”, Dindim decided to venture out to sea and join his colony. “He disappeared”, explained the fisherman.

But whilst everyone thought the penguin’s departure signaled the end of their friendship, after a few months, the penguin returned to the beach where his fisherman friend had saved him.

Ever since, for the past five years, Dindim has come back to see Joao and spends eight months of the year with his friend. He is believed to spend the rest of the year breeding off the coast of Argentina and Chile.

Joao went on to say:

"I love the penguin like it’s my own child and I believe the penguin loves me. Every time the penguin sees his saviour, he wiggles his bottom like a dog wagging his tail and honks in delight.

No one else is allowed to touch him. He pecks them if they do. He lays on my lap, lets me give him showers, allows me to feed him sardines and to pick him up."

In an interview with local news channel Globo TV, biologist Professor Krajewski shared his astonishment:

I have never seen anything like this before. I think the penguin believes Joao is part of his family and probably a penguin as well.

“Every year it’s the same story, everyone says he won’t come back, but every year he does and he becomes more affectionate as he appears even happier to see me,” Joao finished.

Heartbreaking footage of an orangutan trying to fight off an excavator from destroying his home highlights the terrible plight these gentle apes are facing.

“This desperate orangutan is frantically seeking refuge from the destructive power of the bulldozer; a machine that has already decimated everything else around him,” writes International Animal Rescue, who released the video for World Environment Day.

This dramatic footage shows the devastating impact deforestation is having on precious orangutan habitat.

“Despite all the obstacles thrown at them, our team were able to rescue this orangutan and bring him to safety,” the wild animal rescue group says. “Unfortunately, scenes like this are becoming more and more frequent in Indonesia. Deforestation has caused the orangutan population to plummet; habitats are destroyed and orangutans are left to starve and die.”

Orangutan habitat is being decimated at a staggering pace due to illegal logging or palm oil production. The apes are often subjected to cruel and barbaric torture or killed in order to make way for human developments. An increasing number of orangutans are being orphaned. Many are rescued by IAR, but even more are lost.

As result of human activities, studies suggest that more than 2.5 million acres are lost every year. As a result, orangutans are left to starve and die with nowhere to call home. Borneo orangutans are now considered critically endangered.

International Animal Rescue is asking for help through their Plant A Tree initiative to help reforest the orangutans’ forests.
