What would you do if you won the lottery? Many would opt for a new house, or maybe a nice vacation. For one recent winner, however, it's his four-legged friends that come first. Massachusetts resident Paul Riley recently won the $4 million prize from the “100X Cash” instant ticket game and promises to donate a portion to animal welfare.Inspired by his faithful dog, Raven, Riley plans on making a donation to the Animal Rescue League, which provides animals in need with veterinary care, adoption, and field services.
Of course, Riley will still have some money set aside after his generous donation, and plans to use it to buy a new car for his wife.
“$4 MILLION winner pictured with his VIP, very important puppy, Raven. He plans on buying his wife a car and donating to the Animal Rescue League!” writes Massachusetts State Lottery. The store in which Riley purchased his ticket will also receive a $40,000 bonus for the sale.
Labradors may not be the smallest of pups, but next to his two Great Dane neighbours, this chocolate lab named Guiseppe looks positively tiny.
The sweet lab recently moved in next door to brothers Vito and Bambino, and the two Great Danes were very excited to have a new and exciting friend in the neighbourhood.

A dramatic rescue led to a very happy reunion this week after Coast Guard airmen came to the rescue of a dog who fell from a cliff. 




The shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) also known as whalehead, whale-headed stork, or shoe-billed stork, is a very large stork-like bird. It derives its name from its enormous shoe-shaped bill. It has a somewhat stork-like overall form and has previously been classified with the storks in the order Ciconiiformes based on this morphology. 


It was a very special Christmas this year for the staff at Zoo Atlanta, who celebrated the birth of a rare Southern white rhinoceros, the first ever born at the zoo.
