It’s always touching my heart when I see kids being fond of animals, but this little fella is much more than that. Meet Roman, the 2018 kid of the year!


Roman McConn is a 7 years old little boy from Augusta, Georgia and he’s just as any other kid at his age. However, his unconditional love for animals is just unbelievable. And to understand what that actually means, you need to know that Roman has rescued more than 1,300 dogs so far.


“I think it’s very important for the dogs I meet that I give them the best chance at finding the right home that they need,” Roman told InsideEdition.com. “I think a lot of other kids should be doing what I’m doing.”

And since such incredible kind gestures won’t pass unnoticed, Roman’s love for stray dogs got the attention American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) who named him the Kid of the Year, an award definitely deserved!


The little boy started to rescue dogs since he was 4 and with the help of his mom, Sully, they founded Project Freedom Ride. The organization’s goal is to rescue dogs (especially those who found themselves on dead lists) and them to find new homes for them.
Asked how he managed to find families for so many dogs, Roman simply explained that his mom was filmed him while he was playing with the dogs he rescued and then she shared the adorable videos on Facebook.


“She posts it on Facebook so people can see it,” the boy said. “I think it’s very important for the dogs I meet that I give them the best chance at finding the right home that they need.”

Located in the Amazon, there is a unique photograph that was captured by Mark Cowan when he was touring the Amazon and studying more about the diversities of amphibians; while collaborating with the Herpetology Division of the University of Michigan. While on this tour, he was able to capture one of the best photographs ever clicked. In the photo, you can see caiman that has a vibrant crown of butterflies on its head.

As per their biology, the butterflies need salt for survival and hence, the salt that gets accumulated on the skin of caimans serves to be highly useful. There are different breeds of animals that also rely on commensalism for their nutrition. Although the caiman does not have any noticeable advantage due to this type of arrangement, it adds to the appeal of the caiman and it looks majestic!

When Amanda Guarascio and Dylan Parkinson heard about a stray and starving dog at Evans Creek campground in Washington State, the pair decided to attempt to rescue him.

Their rescue effort would end up requiring a little bit of patience and a lot of ingenuity, but in the end it all paid off. Read how the clever pair were finally able to catch the homeless dog by appealing to his compassion!

Amanda described the events leading to Baby Bear’s rescue on Facebook:

“Dylan and I drove up last night after we heard about him, and to our surprise, he was sitting in a little turn-off on the side of the road right where the girl said she had seen him,” Amanda wrote. “We spent an hour trying to coax him to us with food but it didn’t get us very far.”
They left and returned with a package of hot dogs, staying near him far into the night. At 3 a.m. they headed home but came back the next day with a new plan.


“I got down on the ground with my back to the pup, who we have decided to call Bear (okay, Baby Bear to be exact) and slowly started crawling backwards towards where he was laying,” said Amanda.


She pretended to be hurt, to see if she could coax Baby Bear closer.

“I started whimpering and yawning (which is a calming signal), and continued to slowly get closer and closer until I was rested up against the sweet little Baby Bear! (At one point, he got up to try to find us shelter because he saw me as a pathetic human girl that had no survival skills, he sort of took me under his wing!)”



It worked! Amanda was able to get close to him and actually pick him up!


“I had to carry him everywhere! I had to pick him up and put him in the truck and then we snuggled together until we got to the vet…Where again, I had to carry him inside…all 57 lbs of him!”


Baby Bear was taken to Useless Bay Sanctuary, who were able to find him an amazing foster family.


And shortly after, he found his forever home with a wonderful family.


It’s a fantastic happy ending thanks to Amanda and Dylan’s kindness. They gave of their time and energy and saved a life!

Jarbas Agnelli spends his mornings reading newspapers. So, one morning, he spotted a photo of birds on an electric wire. He took the photo and made a song using the location of the birds. Yes, the birds became his musical notes.

Agnelli decided to sent the music to the photographer who made the photo, Paulo Pinto, who informed his editor. The story ended up as an interview, and became the Winner of the YouTube Play Guggenheim Biennial Festival.

Jarbas says the piece was created by pure chance, and it became a masterpiece out of curiosity. He was eating his breakfast and the photo took his breath. He arranged the music for an orchestra, and the video was a huge success. The mind blowing trajectory for his one-minute piece of music was unpretentious.

It sounds incredible. These birds knew what they were up to.
