A scared donkey was meandering along the road way. The woman immediately pulled over her car and jumped to help the scared creature, but not before to call the authorities. Shortly after, officer Kyle Canaan at Norman Police Department, arrived at the scene. 

Meantime, Robin somehow managed to get the donkey off the road. Initially officer Canaan was not sure how to deal with this completely unusual challenge, but he soon figured out. The woman offered to foster the donkey they named Squishy at her home, a few miles away from there. 

But since it would have taken too long for a proper transportation vehicle to arrive, officer Canaan decide to give Squishy a drive-along. An invitation that Squishy gladly accepted. “Our officers encounter unexpected things every day while on-duty,” the City of Norman, OK Police Department wrote on Facebook. 

The rescue donkey wasn’t bothered at all to ride in the back of the patrol car, a space usually reserved for outlaws. More than that the two got along very well and they even had a lot of fun on their way. Well, except for one thing. 

“It used the bathroom in the back of my police car,” Canaan told KFOR. “I mean, I must have got it right after breakfast, because there was a lot.” However, the most important is that officer Canaan has safely drove his four-legged passenger to Robin’s place. And he even showed his interest in adopting it, if there won’t be anyone willing to do it.

The pair step out on the snow after spending the last few months in the den. Their beautiful moment of joy was captured on camera! Some adorable scenes at the Novosibirsk Zoo, one of the largest zoos in Russia. After becoming a mother for the second time, Gerda and her lovely baby get the chance to enjoy the snow for the first time together. 

While the patient mother had been through many winters, for the little cub is the first snow encounter. Needless to mention it loves it! In the first months after birth, polar bear cubs are extremely helpless, so they rely on their moms 100%. The mother and the cubs not even leave the den, until the little ones are strong enough. 

In this particular situation, the cub is already a few months old, so the stuff allowed it and its mom to get some fresh air. Although strong enough to play in the snow, the cub will still have to stay alongside its mom for a few more months. 

The cub’s dad, Kay is not allowed, yet, around the baby nor the mother. His reactions may be pretty unpredictable, so the staff take no risks. Cautious at first upon seeing so much snow, the curious cub immediately started to explore the surroundings. Under the supervision of its mom, of course!

 This is what she did when she saw a sick swan, which cost her a frantic journey of more than 23 miles on foot. 

 As reported by The New York Times, Ariel was planning to spend her 30th birthday evening at the Jamaica Bay wildlife refuge in Queens, New York. But then she ran into this bird that stood out from the rest of the animals. It was a female mute swan who appeared to be sick. She was sitting on the grass, alone, by the water’s edge. There she changed all her plans for the day and set to work. 

  “If there is an animal in need, I will do everything I can,” she said. There, she thought about how to get to Manhattan’s Upper West Side, where the appropriate animal rehabilitation center for such cases was located. Ariel, who spent five years as an animal care manager at the Wild Bird Fund rehabilitation center, knows how to spot a bird when it’s in bad condition. She spent several years rescuing geese in Central Park, red-tailed hawks in Brooklyn and other animals. 

 She confirmed her suspicions when she approached the bird, characterized by being very territorial and aggressive in such cases, and the bird did not act, but only tried to swim away with difficulty. 

She approached it, wrapped it in her jacket and took it with her.

“Well, I’m carrying a swan. I have no idea what to do. I guess I’ll just walk,” she said in her mind, as she walked back to her bike. And it wasn’t a normal thing to see someone walking around with a swan. 

 The hike back to her bike was very difficult since she was carrying the 17 pound bird. After that she called different animal shelters, but no one would help. Only a married couple took her and the swan to the Howard Beach subway station. 

So, she sat with the swan still wrapped in her coat on one of the seats. “Meanwhile, there are some people on the train and no one seems to be puzzled. (There was a man) sitting in front of me and he was just talking on the phone. I don’t even know if he noticed that there was a swan in front of him,” she said. She managed to meet with Tristan Higginbotham, an animal care manager for the Wild Bird Fund, at a station. They then drove to the Wild Bird Fund from there. 

Once at the rehabilitation center, they determined that the animal was underweight and showed symptoms of lead poisoning, which often occurs when they ingest different things they find.

Ariel was very happy to have helped the swan. “That was the perfect culmination of my 20s. It was the perfect birthday gift to be out in nature and be able to save a life,” she said.

 That was the case for one veteran and his beloved service dog, who have such an unbreakable bond that when it came to his wedding day, he had to have his dog involved in a special way. Justin Lansford is a US Army veteran from Silver Spring, Maryland. In 2012, he was deployed as a paratrooper to Afghanistan and suffered an accident. 

  “We struck an IED and it flipped my truck completely,” Justin told ABC News. “I had bilaterally severed femurs which resulted in the amputation of my left leg.” 

 But while recovering at the hospital, Justin got an opportunity that would change his life. A group called Warrior Canine Connections pairs wounded servicemen with support dogs. 

 Justin was paired with a golden retriever named Gabe.

  Gabe was invaluable in helping Justin readjust after losing his leg. 

  “The less I use my wheelchair, the more I need his help in smaller tasks and the more he is there,” Justin said. “It has been very comforting to know that.” 

  “He helps me with one thing to the next. I can use him as a stable surface to lean on, as I get to and from the ground.

But Gabe did more than just help him around. He quickly proved to be a source of emotional support and friendship. “Since day one, we’ve been joined to the hip,” Justin told the New York Daily News.  “He’s there for me all day, every day.” 

 The dog made a big impact not only on Justin, but on his longtime girlfriend Carol, who worked for Warrior Canine Connections and knew the deep connection they shared. 

  “You have to make sure a support dog is always happy and that they’ll love the person they’re with forever,” Carol told Buzzfeed. 

So when Justin & Carol got married in 2015, it felt only right to have Gabe be part of the ceremony. But while some people have their dogs act as ring bearers or just as guests, Justin wanted his beloved dog by his side on his big day and gave him a position of honor: his best man. 

  “He goes everywhere I go,” Justin told the Daily News. “He’s certainly there to pick me up emotionally when I need it. Why would the wedding be any different?”

The bride certainly had no objections to Justin’s unique choice. “Justin and Gabe go everywhere together and our wedding did not seem like it should be any different of an occasion,” Carol said. 

“It was really cool to have him right by me,” Justin said. “I don’t think there was a dry eye at that point. It was a pretty steady ‘aww’ throughout the entire wedding.”

Your wedding is a very special day, a time when you want to be surrounded by the friends and family who have supported you the most. It seems only natural that Gabe be at the heart of their big day.

  This story shows how deep our relationships with animals can really be. Sometimes they’re more than just pets—they’re our best friend.
