The adorable seal, named Yulelogs, recently celebrated his 31st birthday and naturally, all his friends wanted to make sure that it was a day to remember. 

Normally, male grey seals don’t tend to live past 25, but Yulelogs is an energetic, happy, and feisty senior. Cornish Seal Sanctuary
Yulelogs has lived in the Cornish Seal Sanctuary, in Cornwall, England, since 1993, following a brief stint in the wild. 

The seal was just a little pup when he was taken in by a marine park in 1989 and he spent several years living at the park as part of their exhibit on Grey seals. After four years, the park closed the exhibit and decided to release Yulelogs into the wild. However, after having spent so much time in captivity, 

Yulelogs was not ready to take care of himself. He was used to people just handing him treats, and he began chasing after people holding buckets on the beach because he assumed the buckets were filled with tasty fish. The RSPCA received reports about the hungry seal chasing confused beach-goers and promptly contacted the Seal Sanctuary for help. 

And so, after a mere three months on his own, Yulelogs moved into the Cornish Seal Sanctuary and has been happily munching on their fish ever since. 

Yulelogs loves his comfy life at the sanctuary, and when he received his fishy birthday cake the chubby boy was ecstatic; he grinned as wide as he could and positively shone with joy and excitement. The birthday cake was not only a tasty treat but also doubled as a brain-teaser and Yulelogs had an absolute blast trying to figure out how to best get access to the delicious fish. 

“It’s a great form of enrichment for him also as it requires a bit of thinking on how to get the fish out of the cake!” a staff member at the sanctuary explained to The Dodo. 

All in all, it was the best birthday Yulelogs could have asked for, and we’re sure he’s already looking forward to next year’s celebrations.

Freya has finally been adopted from Freshfields Animal Rescue Center in the U.K. according to a report from TMZ on Tuesday. The Staffordshire bull terrier was taken in as a six-month-old stray and became famous in May after The Mirror published a report that the pooch had been rejected more than '18,000 times' by potential owners. 

After seeing the British news, Hollywood filmmaker Michael Bay, 51, promised to come to Freya's rescue. Freya who is ‘the world’s loneliest dog’ was chosen to star in a Hollywood blockbuster along with Sir Anthony Hopkins! 

Not only did this turn the doggie’s world upside down; it also introduced her to some A-listers and glamorous filming sets and helped her to find a loving forever home… Freya the pooch spent the first 6 years of her life in a shelter and was rejected more than 18,720 times… so she got named ‘the world’s loneliest dog’ When film director Michael Bay read an article about the pooch, he decided to help by giving the pooch a role in Transformers 5!

With such a demand and lack of space, foresters came up with an ingenious way to grow more wood using less land. This involves the heavy pruning of a mother cedar tree, which encourages tall, thin saplings to shoot upwards. 

Think of it as a bonsai on a large scale. This technique, which is called daisugi, enables foresters to harvest wood much more quickly. The shoots can either be planted (to help quickly populate a forest) or harvested. Similar techniques can be found dating back to ancient Rome, which was called pollarding, and across Europe—particularly in Britain—where it's called coppicing. 

The result is slender cedar that is both flexible and dense, making it the perfect choice for traditional wood roofs and beams. Daisugi cedar can be harvested every 20 years and with the base tree lasting hundreds of years, there's a lot of wood to be harvested from just one tree. Source While 20 years may seem like a long time, this is actually accelerated compared to traditional Kitayama cedar. 

In order to keep the trees knot-free, workers climb the long trunks every three to four years and carefully prune any developing branches. 

After about 30 years, a single tree is finally cut down. This type of cedar, which is slightly thicker than the daisugi cedar, has several different uses. Traditionally, the smooth, aesthetically pleasing pieces of wood were used as the main pillars in an alcove called the tokonoma. 

Also first appearing in the 15th century during the Muromachi period, these alcoves were used to display artistic items like ikebana or scrolls. 

They also feature prominently in Kyoto's tea houses and it's said that it was Kyoto's preeminent tea master, Sen-no-rikyu, who demanded perfection in the Kitayama cedar during the 16th century. Though the use of Kitayama cedar in these traditional alcoves is declining as Japanese architecture develops, this highly prized wood is still used for everything from chopsticks to furniture.

Big-eared animals can win hearts around the world and even end up in the record books. Now, one goat with unbelievably long ears is becoming a sensation — and is determined to set a world record, even if it means making a new one. 

Simba, a baby goat from Karachi, Pakistan, has been making a splash in his home country thanks to a unique and head-turning attribute: he has enormous ears, measuring 54 cm, or about 22 inches. Simba’s owner, goat breeder Mohammad Hasan Narejo, says that this unique kid has become a media sensation in Pakistan. He told AFP that in just a month, Simba achieved levels of fame that most celebrities only dream of, and brought him unprecedented attention as well. 

“He has not only made me proud, but Pakistan, too,” Mohammad told AFP. “Within 10 to 12 days of his birth, he was already appearing in all the national and international media — and won a beauty contest.” Mohammad believes that Simba likely has longer ears than any goat in the world, and wants to make it official. 

But unfortunately, Guinness World Records does not have a category for “Longest Goat Ears.” But the owner says he has been working to verify the record with Guinness: “They have accepted our application. Within 10 to 12 weeks, a team of Guinness Book of World Records will be here in Pakistan to measure its ears,” he told Times of India. 

According to their website, Guinness does have records for longest dog ears, longest rabbit ears, longest bat ears, and even the longest human ear hair, so surely they could add a new category for Simba.

But even as he waits to get accepted into the record books, Simba is living his best life, basking in attention and becoming a local celebrity. His remarkable ears are protected with special harnesses, and Mohammad takes some spiritual steps to make sure his goat stays safe from harm. 

“We recite Koranic verses and blow on him to cast away the evil eye,” he told AFP. “Following a long tradition we inherited from our elders, we have fastened a black thread around him that is fortified with Koranic verses.” Simba is now reportedly living a “pampered existence” in Karachi, and the owner hopes that Simba’s fame is only just beginning. 

“Simba’s Pakistan name must roam the whole world,” Mohammad said. Wow, that is one incredible, unique goat! We hope Simba gets to set an official world record and continues living his best life!

That's right, the dog. The scenes between Robert Neville (played by Smith) and his beloved German Shepherd, Sam - who was given to him by his daughter as a puppy before she died in a helicopter crash - truly were the strongest of the film. 

They were often poignant, sometimes funny, and, at one point, absolutely heartbreaking. But before you plunge into sorrow remembering how that story panned out for Sam (and if you haven't seen it, SPOILER ALERT: not well), it might be worth knowing that the real life story is much, much happier. 

It turns out that Abbey, the dog who played Sam, is actually alive and well, despite the film's release being well over 10 years ago. Better still, she's still living with the family of her trainer, Steve Berens - who revealed to LADbible that the 13-year-old pooch is now enjoying retirement with his daughter and her kids. 

"She's older now and she doesn't hear hardly anything," he told us. "But she's still kicking, she still likes a ball and likes a bone." Berens, who runs animal training company Animals of Distinction, said that Abbey has 'always been part of the family' since film bosses asked him to find and train a female German Shepherd for the role of Sam. 

He explained: "We got her in the middle of July and then went to camera towards the end of September, so that was a pretty quick transition. She wasn't coming from a training foundation - she really knew nothing. 

"She was trained a lot of the basics that you need for film work, and then directly for those scenes. "It was stressful at first, but she really came on good. She's a good dog and she really learned fast." Berens said that the experience of working with Smith was 'fabulous', and that Abbey was also a big fan of her human co-star. 

He said: "When you work with a lot of actors, they're not that interested in the animal - a lot of actors look at it as something that the audience is going to be looking at instead of them. 

In fact, rumours even began to surface that Smith was interested in becoming Abbey's new owner - something that Berens wouldn't have necessarily been against, but was a little wary of. 

"Kind of through the channels he had mentioned that, but he didn't really say that directly to me," he explained. "I didn't want to see that end badly - you know how a lot of these stars fall in love with their co-stars, and then once they move on to the next picture, they're off and running. 

"If he would have come to me directly, possibly - I don't know. When you train and you spend that much time personally, it's quite a relationship that you develop. She's always been with us, in the house and around our other animals. She's just always been a big part of our family." 

Berens also said that Abbey's training then continued, as after I Am Legend she went onto score other small parts, adding: "Nothing of much substance or was really identifiable, but she had little things here and there. Other than that she's been a pet, a family dog. 

"There are larger companies who turn things over a bit more. We're a kind of a smaller company and it is a little bit more of a personal situation. You know, she's in the front yard right now." Even though Berens says his company is small, that's not to say it doesn't produce big things. Along with Abbey's work in I Am Legend, the trainer has also worked on various Adam Sandler movies, and even provided and trained the dog called Milo in The Mask. 

While he predominantly works with dogs, cars and birds, Berens is used to having to go a little more off-piste. "As an animal trainer you always have your own stock, and if you can work with those you're always wanting to because they're your animals," he said. 

"But it doesn't always work that way, and especially with Adam a lot of times he would write something that was so off the wall that we'd have to go out and find it, and prep it and put it together for the film. It wasn't always exactly what you had." 

But he also believes that every animal is trainable, to some degree. "That's the thing with animal training - it's the art of illusion."

So here is an incident where a cyclist found five puppies abandoned and left, he went above and beyond to help them. He gave them a ride and helped them in finding their homes. 

Tyago Costa Silva who is a professional cyclist from Brazil never expected that he would come across such kind of saddening sight in the middle of nowhere which would lead them to change their course. Tyago found five puppies buried in a hole. He said that someone dug the hole and left them there to die. The puppies were weak and unable to escape. 

The sad situation of the puppies left the cyclists in shock and they were unable to believe that someone could be so cruel as to do such a thing. So the cyclists knew they had to help. They pulled out the puppies and gave them food and water. A video posted on Tyago’s Instagram account shows him giving water from his bottle to the thirsty pups. 

Not only they provide water to the puppies but also carried them 12 miles by putting them in their shirts. Tyago even took the five puppies to his home to provide them with more care. According to Tyago he got very emotional and took them home to care for them. 

He said that he could not believe that people could be so cruel. He said that he hoped that the puppies get homes with good owners. Luckily the puppies sad story has a happy ending. All the five puppies found their forever homes. 

The cyclist received lot of praise for his work. He said that he did what was right. Thank you Tyago and his friends for helping the puppies.

They have big bright eyes and those eyes are filled with innocence. But some people are after these cute creatures and wanted to hunt them down. Some babies could stay and wait for some help but others are not that lucky. 

Here, the hero of the story is a young brave baby Albino elephant. She was found in a trap of a poacher at a private reserve close to the border of Kruger National Park in South Africa. The innocent soul was spotted and rescued by the volunteers at Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development(HERD). She was immediately shifted to the sanctuary and was treated for her injuries. The weak and fragile baby elephant was tangled in the trap for 4 days. The snare was wrapped around her face which caused deep wounds all over her mouth, face, and ears. 

The more serious thing was the maggots that had started eating the open flesh. The poor baby suffered a lot but she kept going. 

According to Sue Howells, the elephant looked very innocent, fragile, and pure, yet it looked very brave. Fortunately, the baby elephant made a great recovery and she is in a good condition. She is very happy and healthy now. 

According to Sue Howells, the baby elephant is very strong. Her sweet, fragile personality shines through her toughness. This baby elephant was different from others as she was albino and blessed with pink skin. 

We are happy that the baby elephant was saved and we wish her all the happiness for the future life.

She currently resides on a farm with her human Andrea, which means she is always helping her take care of all the animals. 

From kittens to hedgehogs, Loryn has had her fair share of furry friends, but nothing compared to when her mom brought home baby goats.

Loryn immediately felt drawn to the goats and bonded with them right away. She loved them as if they were her own babies, and she made it her job to keep them safe. 

Loryn’s maternal instincts certainly shined as she groomed them, cuddled with them, and followed them everywhere. They grew inseparable, and the goat kids loved Loryn just as much as she loved them.

Loryn cared for them so much that the goats began to think that Loryn was actually their real mother, and Loryn wouldn’t have had it any other way. Instagram page
The first goats that Loryn cared for were named Mia, Delilah, Daisy Mae, and Henry, and Loryn loved them all equally. 

The four of them followed Loryn around the farm, always wanting to stay close to her. Today, the goats are fully grown and are no longer babies, but still, live on the farm and remain very close with Loryn.

Now that the goats don’t require constant care now that they are older, Loryn has shifted her motherly instincts toward other baby animals who have arrived on the farm.

The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control started an experimental program called ‘Calming Companions,’ where they invited the public into their shelters to sit with the dogs and cats, during fireworks. The idea was loudly appreciated by the animal lovers, as almost 200 kind people came out to the event, visiting either of the control’s shelters. 

They even brought their own chairs and blankets. According to the One Green Planet, they read, played music, and entertained the dogs. 

Staff at the shelters provided treats, toys, and games that helped keep the dogs and cats occupied, and the joint effort led to a great experience for everyone involved. “Ever thought about bringing your dog to crowded places? Even worse, crowded places with fireworks? I promise you dogs don’t like it. 

Some people sang to them, some people read to them, some people just sat there and gave treats! it was so so awesome because the dogs absolutely love the attention and were focused on the people and not the fireworks going on outside,” Amy Engel, one of the volunteers said. 

This Calming Companions’ initiative was a really successfully one. As it is less than a month until this year’s event, it is likely the event will be repeated. 

Maricopa County Animal Care and Control works tirelessly to care for the animals in their community, helping pets be reunited with their families and finding stray animals loving new homes.

  With the mother not anywhere to be seen, it was up to a few good Samaritans to save her. They led her to them and picked the baby up before taking it to safety. The people who saved the deer called Monika Melichar from the Woodlands Wildlife Sanctuary to get some advice on what to do, and she instructed them to leave the baby deer in a quiet area not too far from where it was found. 

But then, a few hours later the deer began to bawl again and it had walked up to the cottages close-by where the people who had saved her before were staying. She was looking for help as her mother wasn’t around, she was so young she could barely walk! So at this point, they called Monika back and she told them to bring the baby deer into the sanctuary for care. You could tell she was ecstatic to be rescued and was a very thirsty baby, they named her Ivy. She was lonely though so the sanctuary gave her a little giraffe toy to make her feel more comfortable and use as a security blanket. They were waiting for another orphaned fawn to show up so Ivy wasn’t alone. Then, lone and behold, another poor orphaned buck showed up. They clicked straight away and were both very happy to have a friend in their time of need. They spent many weeks together before even more deer had arrived. The group of juveniles then made their own little pack together and were eventually let out into the wild together.

Only when she uploaded the images to the computer, she recognised the familiar shape that appeared right before her eyes: – I thought "oh my God, it resembles a fox or a wolf or something." I didn't know when I photographed what I got. It was amazing, she says. 

Northern lights are common in the arctic region of the northern hemisphere and are caused by the solar wind colliding with the atmosphere. Recent years northern lights have been getting more common, caused by increased solar activity. 

Ms Karlssons picture of the celestial animal has since become a viral success. It has been shared thousands of times on Facebook, but has also raised suspicion. 

Several people have been in contact with the photographer herself, to question the authenticity of the picture. – They think it is fake, but I can assure all sceptics that it's genuine, Ms Karlsson says to SVT Saami indigenous people believe these lights are their ancestors visiting them. The Salteaus Indians of eastern Canada and the Kwakiutl and Tlingit of Southeastern Alaska interpreted the northern lights as the dancing of human spirits. 

They rode on horseback, leading fallen soldiers to their final resting place at Valhalla. In Finland, a mystical fox was thought to have created the aurora, its bushy tail spraying snow and throwing sparks into the sky.
